Can the Anointing Be Corrupted? The Truth About God's Unbreakable Power

Can the Anointing Be Corrupted? The Truth About God's Unbreakable Power

Teaching by Prophet Lovy L. Elias · Watch on YouTube · 8 December 2022

The anointing of God is designed to destroy yokes — and what destroys corruption cannot itself be corrupted.

The doctrine that the anointing can be corrupted is not only unscriptural — it is a dangerous form of ignorance that causes believers to reject the very hand of God moving in their lives. God anoints imperfect people by His grace, not by their merit, and the anointing remains sovereign, immutable, and independent of human sinfulness. The greatest deliverance is not always demons manifesting — it is being delivered from ignorance of the Word of God.

Teaching Overview

  1. The anointing of God cannot be corrupted — it is by nature anti-corruption, designed to break yokes and destroy spiritual bondage.
  2. The presence of the Holy Spirit does not automatically mean a person has knowledge or wisdom; God's people perish for lack of knowledge, not lack of His presence.
  3. God anoints whomever He chooses — including imperfect, sinful, and even unbelieving people — to fulfill His sovereign purposes.
  4. What gets corrupted is not the anointing but the wisdom of the anointed person, because wisdom belongs to self and anything of self is corruptible.
  5. The doctrine of the corrupted anointing originated from people who believe they have a monopoly on how God works — and this belief is both foolish and unscriptural.

The Source of the Corrupted Anointing Doctrine

  • The idea that the anointing can be corrupted comes from people who believe they have a monopoly on how the Holy Spirit works.
  • When such people see God moving through someone whose methods they do not recognize, they label that person as demonic rather than acknowledge God's sovereignty.
  • The manifestation of God has nothing to do with the man — it has to do with the grace of God.

"The whole concept of the anointing being corrupted was born from people who think they have a monopoly on the power of God."

The Anointing Cannot Be Corrupted

  • Isaiah 10:27 establishes that the anointing destroys yokes — and what is designed to break corruption cannot itself be corrupted.
  • The anointing is anti-corruption: when it is present, what is corrupt cannot affect it, but it can affect what is corrupt.
  • There is no perfect human being God has ever anointed, but everyone God anoints is set on the path of perfection because the anointing itself breaks the yokes that entangle that person.

"The anointing can never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever be corrupted. It's impossible."

There Is No Such Thing as an Evil Anointing

  • To claim there is an evil anointing is to assume Satan has a factory where he manufactures anointing — which is foolishness.
  • Witches and wizards operate through power that has nothing to do with anointing; many believers confuse spiritual power with the anointing because they do not understand what the anointing is.
  • Calling the anointing evil or corrupted is an insult to what is of God.

"Anyone who tells you there is an evil anointing is an idiot. I said it. It's foolish."

Nobody Has a Monopoly on the Holy Spirit

  • God will use the foolish things of this world to confound the wise — meaning God can take anyone and anything to fulfill His purpose, whether that person knows it or not.
  • The High Priest who plotted Jesus' crucifixion prophesied over the council because the Holy Spirit anointed his office that year — a wicked man used by God without his knowledge.
  • To demonize what the Holy Spirit is doing through a person is to blaspheme God.

"Nobody has a monopoly on the Holy Spirit. Nobody has a monopoly on the power of God."

Cyrus: Anointed Without Ever Knowing God

  • Cyrus was a Persian king of the Achaemenid Empire who never prayed to God, never worshipped Him, and had his own gods and temples.
  • God called him "My anointed" through Isaiah, held up his right hand, and gave him power to subdue nations — specifically so that he would free the children of Israel from Babylon.
  • The anointing on Cyrus had nothing to do with his prayer life, fasting, or worship — it was entirely the sovereign grace of God.

"If Cyrus can be anointed and he doesn't know God, he was anointed so that he can deliver the children of Israel from Babylon."

Solomon: Anointing Intact Despite Moral Failure

  • Solomon brought other gods into Israel because of his wives — God was angry with him and scattered the nation after him because of his sin.
  • Yet God never removed Solomon's wisdom, never killed him, and never undid what He was doing through him.
  • Solomon ultimately returned to God, and the book of Ecclesiastes shows a man who assessed life and declared that fearing God and keeping His law is the sum of everything.

"There is no human being that doesn't sin. Does that mean the anointing becomes corrupted? No!"

What Actually Gets Corrupted: Wisdom, Not Anointing

  • What gets corrupted in a fallen or failing servant of God is their wisdom — the human application of knowledge — not the anointing itself.
  • Wisdom belongs to the person; anything that is of self can be corrupted. Anything that proceeds from God can never be corrupted.
  • There is the wisdom of men, the wisdom of the age, the wisdom of the princes of this world, and the wisdom of darkness — all of these are corruptible because they are applications of knowledge, not the knowledge itself.

"What gets corrupted is not the anointing. What gets corrupted is the wisdom of the anointed person."

The Presence of the Holy Spirit Does Not Mean You Know

  • Being filled with the Holy Spirit does not automatically produce knowledge of the Word of God or the ability to rightly divide it.
  • If the presence of the Spirit made a believer automatically knowledgeable, there would be no need for the Spirit to teach — yet the Bible says the Spirit of God will teach you, which presupposes that you do not already know.
  • The primary way the enemy entangles believers is not through covenant but through ignorance — and this is why knowledge of the truth is the instrument of freedom.

"The presence of the Holy Spirit doesn't mean you know."

The Destruction of Believers Comes Through Lack of Wisdom

  • The Bible commands that anyone who lacks wisdom should ask God, who gives without reservation — because the lack of wisdom is the destruction of believers.
  • Ignorance in the spiritual realm is not tolerated; foolishness leads to death because the enemy exploits what people do not know.
  • The greatest deliverance is not always a demon manifesting — it is being delivered from ignorance of the Word of God.

"The lack of wisdom, the lack of wisdom, the lack of wisdom is the destruction of believers."

Key Definitions

Anointing — God's sovereign empowerment placed upon a person for a specific work; it proceeds entirely from God, is independent of the person's holiness or spiritual practice, and is by nature anti-corruption.

Corrupted anointing — A false and unscriptural doctrine; the claim that the anointing of God can become defiled or turned evil. As defined by the teaching: an impossibility, because anything that proceeds from God cannot be corrupted.

Evil anointing — A theologically incoherent concept that implies Satan manufactures anointing — described in the teaching as foolishness, because the anointing belongs exclusively to God.

Wisdom — The application of knowledge; it belongs to the person and can therefore be corrupted. Distinct from the anointing, which belongs to God and cannot be corrupted.

Monopoly on the Holy Spirit — The false belief that God only moves through certain people, methods, or traditions, and that manifestations outside those parameters must be demonic. The teaching identifies this as the root of the corrupted anointing doctrine.

Deliverance from ignorance — Identified as the greatest form of deliverance; to be freed from not knowing the Word of God, because ignorance is the primary means by which Satan entangles and destroys believers.

Key Takeaways

  • The anointing is anti-corruption by design — Isaiah 10:27 establishes that the anointing destroys yokes, making it impossible for the very instrument of God's liberation to become corrupted.
  • God anoints sovereignly, not meritocratically — Cyrus was called God's anointed without ever praying to Him, proving that the anointing is entirely God's grace, not a reward for spiritual performance.
  • What falls in a servant of God is their wisdom, not their anointing — Understanding this distinction protects believers from rejecting God's genuine move and from falsely labeling anointed servants as corrupt.
  • Ignorance of God's Word is the primary weapon of the enemy — The lack of wisdom is the destruction of believers, which is why knowing the truth is not optional but foundational.
  • No person or tradition controls who God anoints — God will use the foolish things of this world to confound the wise, and anyone who claims a monopoly on the Holy Spirit has positioned themselves above God's sovereignty.

Reflection Questions

  1. Have you ever rejected or avoided a servant of God because someone told you their anointing was corrupted — and in light of this teaching, what do you now believe God was doing through them?
  2. In what areas of your life are you relying on the presence of the Holy Spirit as a substitute for actually knowing the Word of God?
  3. Where have you made the mistake of assuming that spiritual power and manifestation means a person is walking in full wisdom and integrity — and how has that assumption affected you?
  4. What specific area of ignorance has the enemy been exploiting in your life, and what truth do you need to pursue to close that door?
  5. Are there people in your life — family, mentors, or spiritual leaders — whom you have dismissed or demonized because they did not fit your framework for how God works? What would it look like to repent of that posture?

Prayers and Declarations

Opening Prayer

"Woman of God, I want to pray for you, you yourself. Jesus loves you, but you are under attack. There's a demonic presence that is following you. Too much failure and hardship is around you. But Jesus says that He's standing with you. When you leave this place, He will be next to you. And this cloud is going to depart from you. This thing is going to depart from you."

Put your hand right here. We are going to pray:

"Father, he's sick in the bed right now. The angel of the Lord will visit him. The angel of the Lord is gonna go and touch your son."

Lift your right hand to heaven and say this after me:

"Father, in the name of Jesus. Father, in the name of Jesus. Me and my seed are protected in the mighty name of Jesus."

"Lift up your voice and begin to pray."

"I pray in the name of Jesus that you will depend on Him, that you will rely on Him, that you may see His mighty hand that is able to lift and to change lives in Jesus' name."
