Developing an Excellent Spirit: The True Key to Your Next Level

Developing an Excellent Spirit: The True Key to Your Next Level

Teaching by Prophet Lovy L. Elias · Watch on YouTube · 5 May 2025

Your elevation is not determined by your enemies, your circumstances, or your prayers alone — it is determined by the excellent spirit God finds in you.

Your next level is not determined by your prayer life alone. Prayer is absolutely necessary, but prayer supports something else you must have in order to move toward your next level. God will elevate you not where people celebrate you, but in places you were never supposed to make it — and the sign He is doing so is favor that follows you even among your enemies. The key to manifesting that elevation is an excellent spirit: a humble, God-controlled posture of faithfulness, diligence, and unwavering dependence on God.

Teaching Overview

  1. Your next level is not unlocked by suffering or prayer alone — it requires an excellent spirit that God can honor with favor.
  2. God elevates you not among those who love you, but in places of adversity, opposition, and disadvantage.
  3. Favor is activated when you are removed from your comfort zone and recognized even among your enemies.
  4. An excellent spirit is distinct from good character or morality — it is a spirit under the full control of the Holy Spirit.
  5. The manifestation of your next level is determined by an excellent spirit incubating God's favor through faithfulness, prayer, and unwavering dependence on God.

The Nature of Elevation: Where God Lifts You

  • God does not lift you in the midst of your brethren or where people already love you.
  • God will always lift you in places you are not supposed to be in — so that even your own people will recognize His hand on you.
  • The sign of genuine favor is not revealed when you have pleased everybody; it is revealed during rejection.

"God does not lift you in the midst of your brethren. God does not lift you where people love you. God will always lift you in places that you are not supposed to be in so that those who are your brothers and sisters will join you when God glorifies you in places you're not supposed to be in, then even your own people will know surely God is with you."

"Your elevation will not come where people clap their hands for you. Your elevation will not come from those who celebrate you. Your elevation will always begin in the midst of dark places where you are never supposed to make it."

Favor: What It Is and How It Works

  • Favor is activated when you are removed from your comfort zone — it does not manifest among familiar people.
  • Favor does not silence your enemies; it increases them, because God must set a table to show you off.
  • When God favors you, He gives you His full attention — He sets His eyes and His affection on you and does not look away.

"Favour does not silence your enemies. Favour increases your enemies. Why? Because there is a table that has to be set to show you off."

"When God favors you, God gives you his full attention. He will never favor you and look away from you. When He favors you, He sets His eyes on you, He sets His affection on you. Why? Because favor raises your enemies so that you can be pushed into your destiny."

The Sign of True Favor: Recognition During Rejection

  • If you want to identify a person favored by God, look for someone who always has enemies — including people they once ate with.
  • The sign of genuine favor is not when everything is smooth and everyone is pleased; it is when you should have been buried but people are still supporting you.
  • Favor provokes opposition so that God can establish you in your destiny through it.

"The sign of genuine favor is recognized during rejection. The valley of rejection will testify if you are truly favored by God or not."

"The increase of favor is the increase of attacks."

Character, Morality, and the Excellent Spirit

  • Character and morals are important but they belong to the flesh — having them does not mean you have an excellent spirit.
  • Morality is not spirituality: you can have good morals, a strong work ethic, and an admirable character without God leading you.
  • An excellent spirit is a spirit under the full control of the Holy Spirit — it is about what God can do, not what you can do.

"Character and an excellent spirit are not the same. Because an excellent spirit is a man under God's control. You can have good morals and you're not controlled by God."

"Morality is not spirituality."

What an Excellent Spirit Looks Like in Practice

  • An excellent spirit means you are moldable, flexible, and welcoming to anything God wants to do — you flow with what God gives you.
  • Excellence says you will obey God, follow through, be diligent, remain planted, not be moved, and repair quickly when you miss it.
  • An excellent spirit does not change your values with elevation — you remain who you are regardless of your position or the pressures around you.

"An excellent spirit says I will remain focused. I will be about my Father's business, not my neighbor's business."

"When you have an excellent spirit you don't change your values you remain who you are."

Prayer as a Pattern, Not a Response to Life

  • An excellent spirit prioritizes prayer and does not change prayer patterns to accommodate life — life revolves around prayer, not the other way around.
  • It is better to be attacked when you are in your place of prayer than to be attacked away from it.
  • An excellent spirit maintains spiritual integrity and ensures the full armor of God is on at all times, with no open doors.

"Life revolves around their prayer. Prayer does not revolve around their life. That is the sign of an excellent spirit."

"It is better for you to be attacked when you are in your place of prayer than to be attacked away from your place of prayer. May the worst day that the enemy has against you find you in a place of prayer."

Faithfulness and the Enemy's Inability to Find Fault

  • Faithfulness is a sign of an excellent spirit — it is through faithfulness that favor is magnified.
  • When Daniel's enemies looked for fault in him concerning his official duties, they could not find any occasion or error — because of the excellent spirit within him.
  • When enemies can find no fault in your conduct, they are forced to attack your relationship with God — which reveals how thoroughly the excellent spirit has protected every other area of your life.

"Faithfulness is a sign of an excellent spirit. Faithfulness is a sign of an excellent spirit. Faithfulness is a sign of an excellent spirit. Favour is magnified. Favour is magnified in faithful people."

You Cannot Be Destroyed by What You Did Not Build

  • It is impossible for anyone to pull you down from what God built, anointed, appointed, and called — no person can destroy what they did not build.
  • Even your enemies' words will not destroy you; God makes their words of no effect, and instead their words will advertise you.
  • Mistakes and errors do not negate God's favor — how you respond to your mistakes determines whether you have an excellent spirit.

"No one can destroy what they did not build. You can't bring down what you didn't anoint."

"God will make their words of no effect. Instead of their words destroying you, their words will advertise you."

The Gathering of Enemies as a Sign of Elevation

  • When people at your workplace or in your circle begin gathering and making plans against you, it is a significant sign of the trajectory of where God is taking you.
  • God permits enemies to gather, plan, and fashion every weapon against you — not to destroy you, but because it is necessary for where you are going.
  • Prayer does not stop enemies from coming against you; it ensures that when they come, God will scatter them in seven directions.

"When people start gathering, making meetings about you, it is a huge sign of the trajectory of where God is taking you."

Key Definitions

Excellent Spirit — A spirit under the full control of the Holy Spirit; not a matter of what you can do but what God can do through a moldable, faithful, humble vessel.

Favor — God's sovereign goodness allocated to every child of God, activated when you are removed from your comfort zone, and recognized most clearly in the valley of rejection.

Morality — Ethical conduct and good character rooted in the flesh; important but not equivalent to spirituality or to having an excellent spirit.

Faithfulness — Consistent, unwavering follow-through in what God assigns you; a sign of an excellent spirit and the condition in which favor is magnified.

Confidence — Secure assurance rooted in knowing who called you and what God has done; distinct from pride, though those who operate in false humility will mistake it for pride.

Destiny Partners — The belief that other people hold the keys to your destiny; rejected on the grounds that our destinies are entirely in God's hands, not in the hands of men.

Key Takeaways

  • Your next level requires an excellent spirit, not suffering or prayer alone — prayer supports the excellent spirit, but God is looking for a vessel He can elevate through favor, and that requires your active participation in maintaining that spirit.
  • God elevates you in places of disadvantage and opposition, not among those who celebrate you — understanding this prevents you from misreading rejection, attacks, and hostile environments as signs of God's absence.
  • Favor is activated by removal from your comfort zone and confirmed by recognition among your enemies — when strangers and opponents begin to support you, it is God signaling that He has placed something in you that can enthrone you.
  • An excellent spirit is distinct from good character — it is a spirit under God's control — this distinction matters because you can be moral, hardworking, and well-mannered while still being driven entirely by your own will and desires.
  • The manifestation of your next level is determined by an excellent spirit — everything else — favor, promotion, protection, the silencing of accusations — flows from maintaining this posture of humility, faithfulness, and total dependence on God.

Reflection Questions

  1. When you examine the difficult places and relationships in your life right now — the job you don't like, the people who oppose you, the environment that feels wrong — are you interpreting them as obstacles to fight, or as the territory God is using to activate His favor in you?
  2. Do you have an excellent spirit, or do you have good character? Honestly assess: is your conduct driven by what people see, or is it the overflow of a spirit fully surrendered to the Holy Spirit's control?
  3. How do you respond when you make a mistake? Does your response reveal an excellent spirit — quick to repair, humble, not losing your ground — or does it reveal a dependence on your own reputation?
  4. Does your life revolve around prayer, or does prayer revolve around your life? What would have to change practically for prayer to become the immovable pattern that everything else adjusts around?
  5. Where have you been placing your trust for your destiny — in relationships, alliances, or platforms that could turn against you — rather than in God alone? What specific step would it take this week to realign that trust entirely to Him?
