The Doctrine of the Anointing Pt 2: Marked by God, Trained by Fire
The Doctrine of the Anointing · Part 2 of 2
The anointing is not a feeling — it is a life ordained by God, carved by suffering, and commissioned for His kingdom.
This is the age of revelation — not milk. God is no longer calling His people to remain in spiritual infancy but to grow into the fullness of what He has marked them for. The anointing does not simply empower; it separates, trains, and burdens the one it touches with the very yoke of Jesus. Understanding what the anointing truly is — and what it costs — changes everything about how you read your trials, your persecution, and your purpose.
Teaching Overview
- This is the age of revelation — believers must grow beyond spiritual milk and learn to love God according to what He reveals, not how they feel.
- The anointing marks and separates a person for God's service — it is not a feeling but an ordained path of suffering, rejection, and faithfulness.
- The anointing teaches through the experiences it positions you in — no man can give you what the anointing will teach you through life.
- Taking on the yoke of Jesus means carrying His burdens — the sign of the anointing is that you begin to bear what He bears.
- Trials, persecution, and obscurity are not signs of abandonment — they are the training ground God uses to develop faithfulness and qualify the anointed.
Key Distinctions
| Age of Revelation | Age of Milk | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A dispensation where God unveils hidden truths to mature believers | A foundational season of basic spiritual nourishment for new believers |
| Who it is for | Those who are willing to grow and advance in God | Spiritual infants who are not yet ready for deeper things |
| How love operates | Love for God advances according to what He reveals | Love is based on feelings and emotional experience |
| The danger | Refusing to advance means being left behind as others move forward | Remaining here when God has moved on makes your spiritual tools obsolete |
| True Prophet | False Prophet | |
|---|---|---|
| Defining mark | Can inquire of the Lord on behalf of people and hear from God for them | Cannot hear from God for people; may be prophetic in gift but lacks the divine appointment |
| How they are chosen | Chosen and marked by God Himself | Self-nominated, though God in His grace may still use them |
| Relationship with God | God works with them | God may use them, but is not working with them in the same way |
| What they produce | Truth, restoration, accountability, and genuine life change | People who are told what they want to hear but remain broken, cursed, and unchanged |
| God's Anointing | Demonic Anointing | |
|---|---|---|
| Does it exist? | Yes — ordained, real, and scripturally established | No — this concept has no biblical basis |
| Source | God Himself marks and separates the person | There is no such thing; Satan has no anointing to give |
| Path it produces | Suffering, faithfulness, brokenness, and kingdom fruitfulness | — |
| Working With God | Being Used by God | |
|---|---|---|
| What it means | God is in active partnership with the person — He backs their words and their works | God employs someone as an instrument without being in covenant partnership with them |
| Example | The disciples in Mark 16 — the Lord went with them, confirming the word with signs | Pharaoh — God used him to accomplish His purposes for Israel without working with him |
| What it requires | Being ordained and marked by God Himself | No spiritual qualification required — God can use anyone |
| Building a Relationship with God | Learning Who God Is | |
|---|---|---|
| The assumption | That God is a stranger you must get to know over time | That God already knows you completely and has already accepted you |
| Who does the work | Both parties are said to be discovering each other | Only the believer is learning — God is not learning you |
| The problem with the wrong view | It implies God has not already ordained your life, died for you, and secured your eternity | There is no problem — this is the accurate biblical framing |
| Foundation | Feelings and effort | Revelation — the more God reveals, the deeper the love grows |
| Short-Term Picture | Big Picture | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Seeking God for personal needs — healing, provision, breakthrough | God's intended purpose for the anointed: to oversee a portion of His kingdom |
| Is it wrong? | No — there is nothing wrong with bringing needs to God | No — but it is incomplete without the larger understanding |
| What it misses | The reason God marked you is far greater than personal blessing | The anointed are appointed as overseers of God's interests in where He has placed them |
The Age of Revelation and the Call to Maturity
- God has brought a new dispensation — a revelation age — where He reveals things the previous generation only spoke about.
- When God brings a new dispensation, those who refuse to advance are left behind as others move forward.
- Spiritual growth cannot be stagnant — just as obsolete technology becomes useless, a believer who refuses to grow becomes spiritually uninformed.
"This is the age of revelation. It's not the age for milk. The time for milk has passed."
Love Based on Revelation, Not Feeling
- Loving God according to feelings produces a cold and limited love — as circumstances shift, the love dims.
- Love for God grows and advances only in proportion to what He reveals about Himself.
- There are too many spiritual infants in the body of Christ who mistake building a relationship with God for learning who God is — these are not the same thing.
"You love God according to what he has revealed. The more God reveals, the more you learn how to love him."
"You are not building with him. You are learning who he is. You are learning to grow in that love. There is no time a man ever loved God except God love man first."
The Nature and Path of the Anointing
- The anointing does not primarily refer to a feeling or an event — it is an ordained pattern of life that marks a person for God's special use.
- Every anointed person has been broken, persecuted, insulted, and stripped of reputation — this is not coincidence but the necessary path of the anointing.
- There is no such thing as a demonic anointing — the anointing is exclusively from God, and Satan has no equivalent to offer.
"The anointing separates you because it is to be marked by God himself. You never find an anointed person that has never been broken. You never find an anointed person that has not gone through persecution. There's no such thing as demonic anointing."
What the Anointing Teaches
- The anointing teaches what no man can teach — it does so by positioning the anointed person in circumstances that make God their only comfort.
- When God chooses to anoint someone, He will strip them of every earthly substitute for joy so that they can know Him alone.
- Wanting validation from men is a mistake — if men can validate what you carry, they are involved in giving it to you; but what God gave you, only He can confirm.
"The anointing will teach you all things. God will strip you of everything so that you can know him. You have been qualified by grace."
The Yoke of Jesus and the Burden of the Anointed
- Jesus breaks the yoke of wickedness when a person comes to Him — but He immediately introduces another yoke: His own.
- A yoke joins two together to pull a burden — the yoke of Jesus joins the believer to Christ so they co-labour with Him.
- The sign that the anointing is at work in a life is that the person begins to carry burdens that are not their own — the burdens of Jesus for His people.
"The sign of the anointing in your life is that you begin to carry the burdens of Jesus."
"With God, you labor for something. You will see a harvest. This yoke will put you to call Labour with Christ. Never create your own burden, the anointing will bring the burden of Jesus upon you."
Faithfulness Developed in Obscurity
- God deliberately places the anointed in positions where no one is watching them except Him — this is not punishment but the cultivation of faithfulness.
- David was assigned the lowest work, left out of every important gathering, and rejected by his own father — all of it was God training him to be faithful with no audience.
- The capacity to serve thousands in public is built in proportion to the faithfulness demonstrated in private, unseen, thankless places.
"God permitted that so that you can learn what it means to be faithful. Where no eyes are watching you accept the eyes of the Lord."
The True Prophet and the Prophetic Gift
- A true prophet is one who can inquire of the Lord on behalf of people — if someone cannot hear from God for those who come to them, they are prophetically gifted but not a prophet.
- Many in ministry have nominated themselves — God in His grace may still use them, but He is not working with them in the same way He works with those He has ordained.
- The prophetic exists to save lives — to reveal what God shows about a person's true situation so they can be restored, reconciled, and set free.
"If you cannot inquire of the Lord, you are not a prophet...I rather be called that, and I'm helping people. Then be called a prophet. That doesn't help people that doesn't hear from God."
"The prophetic is to save lives...God has to tell me what is going on. You can't come to me with a half a story."
Honour, Truth, and Restoration
- God is an honourable God who requires His people to walk in honour — this means fixing broken things, making right what has been wronged, and taking responsibility.
- A man who has abandoned his children has a problem with God — God loves him but is not pleased with him, and spiritual blessing cannot flow until that is resolved.
- Speaking the truth and walking in truth is the foundation of a life that pleases God and produces longevity.
"God is an honourable God. You need to walk in honour."
"If you want to live long, if you want to please God, always walk in the truth."
Key Definitions
Revelation — The act of God revealing hidden truths, communicating boundaries, and unlocking mysteries so that what was in darkness is flooded with light.
Anointing — Not a feeling or power itself, but the divine act of God marking and separating a person for His special use — it comes with an ordained pattern of life, including suffering, persecution, and brokenness, that validates it and teaches what no man can teach.
Yoke of Jesus — A burden-sharing instrument, like the wooden or metal yoke placed on oxen, that joins the believer to Christ so they co-labour with Him and carry His burdens for His people.
True Prophet — One who can inquire of the Lord on behalf of people and hear from God for them; not merely someone who operates in prophetic gifts, but one specifically ordained and marked by God for that office.
Age of Revelation — The current dispensation in which God is no longer giving spiritual milk but unveiling hidden truths to mature believers, requiring growth and advancement beyond foundational basics.
Demonic Anointing — A concept with no biblical basis; the anointing belongs exclusively to God and has no demonic equivalent or counterpart.
Key Takeaways
- The anointing is a marked life, not a felt moment — understanding this reframes every trial as part of God's ordained path rather than a sign of His absence.
- Love for God only deepens through revelation — those who love God according to feelings will be left behind; only those who advance with what God reveals will keep pace with Him.
- The yoke of Jesus is a co-labouring call — the anointed are not just recipients of blessing but carriers of Christ's burden, working with Him and backed by His authority.
- Faithfulness in obscurity is the training ground for public influence — God qualifies people for greater assignments by watching how they serve when no one else is watching.
- Honour and truth are non-negotiable foundations — broken relationships, abandoned responsibilities, and hidden sin block spiritual blessing and give the enemy legal ground; restoration begins with honesty before God.
Reflection Questions
- Are you still relating to God primarily through feelings — waiting to feel His presence before you trust Him? What would it look like to love Him according to what He has revealed rather than what you currently feel?
- Have you been interpreting your trials, rejection, or seasons of obscurity as failure? How does the truth that the anointing is a path of suffering change how you see what you are currently walking through?
- Is there something in your past — an abandoned responsibility, a broken relationship, an unresolved wrong — that you know God is requiring you to address before He can advance you? What is holding you back from taking that step?
- Are you building your spiritual life around seeking what God can give you, or are you moving toward the bigger picture of carrying His burdens and overseeing His interests? What would have to shift for the latter to become your priority?
- What does faithfulness look like for you right now in the unseen place — where no one is watching, counting on you, or affirming you? Are you doing it as unto the Lord?
