The Life of the Inner Man: Murky Waters and the Grace You Cannot See

The Life of the Inner Man · Part 4 of 5

← Part 3Part 5
Teaching by Prophet Lovy L. Elias · Watch on YouTube · 17 May 2022

Your spiritual advancement depends not on your purity of background, but on your capacity to look beyond murky waters and connect with those carrying greater grace than yourself.

The life of the inner man is stunted not by lack of prayer or effort, but by a failure to recognize where spiritual advantage truly comes from. God distributes grace through specific human vessels, and the fruit they produce — not their background or appearance — is the measure of their authority. Until you understand this, you will continue to miss the very grace God has positioned around you.

Teaching Overview

  1. Spiritual advancement is determined by grace distributed to specific individuals, not by personal merit or prayer intensity.
  2. True spiritual authority is revealed by the quality of fruit produced, not by outward purity or the absence of a murky past.
  3. God's election and favor are based entirely on His sovereign pleasure and foreknowledge, not on human qualification or moral performance.
  4. The grace level you operate in is measured by who you are connected to, not by the depth of your own spiritual life.
  5. The voice of God is manifested through appointed human vessels, and hearing it clearly requires relationship with the person through whom God speaks.

What Promotes You Spiritually Is Not Your Prayer

  • Spiritual promotion comes from the grace God has given — not from the intensity or consistency of personal prayer.
  • Prayer matures you within the grace you have been given, but grace itself has limits — what Peter was given is not what John was given.
  • Romans 12:6 establishes that every person prophesies according to the measure of grace given to them — meaning grace is individual, distributed, and unequal.

"If you cannot outgrow the grace that has been given to you, you need to find somebody with greater grace than you do in order for you to enter another dimension of grace."

Murky Waters Are Not Disqualifiers

  • Every person in Scripture who carried significant grace also carried murky waters — Moses, Elijah, and even the Lord Jesus Himself.
  • Moses came from an occultic background and was a murderer — yet judging him by his past would have caused people to miss the extraordinary fruit of his ministry.
  • Matthew 7:20 does not say you will know them by their sin — it says you will know them by their fruits, and fruit is a positive measure, not a moral audit.

"You will identify them by their fruit, not by their sin."

Green Leaves Are Not Fruit

  • The presence of a godly outward appearance — consistency, purity, religious discipline — does not mean a person has the capacity to produce spiritual fruit.
  • Jesus cursed a fig tree that had abundant green leaves but bore no fruit — outward appearance of spiritual health is not evidence of spiritual authority.
  • The quality of fruit is determined by closeness to Jesus, and Jesus chooses who is close to Him — not by prayer performance but by His own sovereign selection.

"The presence of green leaves does not mean you have the capacity to produce fruit."

God's Grace Is Not Based on Your Merit

  • God does not give grace because you have pleased Him — He gives grace because it has pleased Him to do so.
  • Jesus died on the cross not because humanity earned it, but because it pleased the Father — God's actions are governed by His own sovereign pleasure, not by human deserving.
  • Matthew 11:25 reveals that God deliberately hides spiritual mysteries from those who consider themselves wise and releases them to spiritual babes.

"God gives you something because it has pleased them, not because you have pleased them."

God Operates From Foreknowledge, Not Present Performance

  • When God calls a person, He does so with full knowledge of every sin, failure, and error that person will ever commit.
  • Romans 8:29–30 teaches that those God foreknew, He also justified — His calling is not a response to what you become but to what He already saw.
  • Human beings measure calling by present moral performance; God has already settled the matter in eternity.

"God is not tallying up your goodness in order to anoint you. God already decided that it is you, even with your mistakes."

Grace Level Is Measured by Who You Are With

  • Elisha's servant had spiritual sight not because of his own spiritual development, but because of his proximity to Elijah.
  • The moment Elisha received Elijah's mantle — a relational, transferable act — he immediately operated in the same dimension of power.
  • Nathanael kept himself pure, yet his purity was insufficient to cause God to manifest to him — he needed a man to reveal that dimension of God.

"Grace level is not measured by your Christianity, is not measured by your spiritual life. It's measured by who you are with."

The Voice of God Manifests Through a Human Vessel

  • The Holy Spirit does not have an independent audible voice — God is the Word, and when His voice is heard it is heard through an appointed human vessel.
  • Every time Samuel heard the voice of God it was the voice of Eli; every time Joshua heard the voice of God it was the voice of Moses; every time the disciples heard the voice of God it was the voice of Jesus.
  • What most people describe as "hearing God's voice" is a spiritual nudge or impression — they cannot recall words, only a knowing — because the voice requires a man.

"The Holy Spirit doesn't have a voice. God is the word, not a voice."

Saul Lost Access to the Voice When Samuel Departed

  • All of Saul's prophetic experience, direction, and hearing from God came through Samuel — when God rejected Saul, Samuel's voice was withdrawn and Saul fell into spiritual silence.
  • Saul attempted to hear God through dreams, through the Urim, and through other means — none worked, because the vessel through whom God had spoken was no longer accessible to him.
  • His turning to the medium at Endor was not a search for God — it was a demand for Samuel, because Saul understood that God's voice had come to him through that specific man.

"When God rejected him, the manifestation of Samuel was not coming."

Key Definitions

Murky Waters — The questionable, imperfect, or morally suspicious background of a person whom God has chosen and anointed, which causes spiritually immature people to reject the very grace they need.

Fruit — The tangible, life-giving results produced in the lives of others through a person's spiritual authority — the true measure of whether someone is genuinely abiding in Christ and sent by God.

Green Leaves — A godly outward appearance and religious consistency that signals personal discipline but does not indicate the capacity to produce spiritual fruit or exercise genuine spiritual authority.

Grace Level — The specific dimension of spiritual capacity God has distributed to a person, which determines the measure in which they can manifest God and impart to others — not earned, but given.

Spiritual Nudging — An inward impression or prompting from the Holy Spirit in which you know something without hearing words — distinct from hearing the audible voice of God manifested through a human vessel.

The Voice of God — Not an abstract spiritual phenomenon, but the audible, precise communication of God manifested through a specific human vessel whom God has appointed — heard only through relationship with that person.

Key Takeaways

  • Spiritual advantage comes from grace, not prayer — Knowing this protects you from working harder at what will not elevate you and directs you toward connecting with those who carry the grace you need.
  • You are identified by your fruit, not your past or your sin — Judging spiritual authority by background or failure causes you to reject the very people through whom God intends to advance your life.
  • God's favor is based on His sovereign pleasure, not your merit — This truth dismantles the human tendency to sit in judgment over who God should anoint, and it frees you from trying to qualify yourself.
  • Your grace level is determined by association — Who you are connected to determines what dimension of God you can access, making your spiritual relationships the most consequential decisions of your life.
  • The voice of God requires a man — Until you are in relationship with the person through whom God speaks in your season, you will receive nudges but not the voice, impressions but not direction.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are there people God has placed in your life whom you have dismissed because of their background or murky waters — and what fruit are they actually producing that you may have overlooked?
  2. Have you been measuring your spiritual growth by how much you pray rather than by the quality of fruit you are producing in the lives of others? What does that fruit actually look like?
  3. In what areas of your life have you been trying to qualify yourself for God's favor rather than receiving it as something He gives by His own sovereign pleasure?
  4. Who are you currently spiritually associated with, and does that association give you access to a greater dimension of grace — or are you limited to the grace level you already carry?
  5. When you say you have "heard from God," can you recall exact words — or was it a nudge, a knowing, a feeling? What would it mean for your life to be connected to the voice rather than just receiving impressions?

Prayers and Declarations

Repeat after me:

"Father, lift up your voice, Elojeeza. Lord Jesus! Today I let go! Of hurts! Of the past! Relationship! That you took away! My cereal things! But cereal things! That you took away! I am okay with it, Lord! You know better! I profess I success and more success! I will succeed! Increase upon increase! In the name of Jesus."

Closing Blessing

"The Lord Jesus bless you all no matter where you are. I believe that God is about to bless you, increase you and transform your life forever."
