The Power of the Lips: Understanding Your Spiritual Government

The Power of the Lips: Understanding Your Spiritual Government

Teaching by Prophet Lovy L. Elias · Watch on YouTube · 8 October 2021

Your words determine the spiritual garment you wear, and that government determines your power, authority, and effectiveness in both realms.

The spiritual world operates on a principle that most believers have never been taught: what comes from your lips determines what spiritual government you wear, and that government is what angels, demons, and God Himself recognize and respond to. This is not about having the right confession in church on Sunday—it is about the consistent words flowing from your lips in everyday life, because those words are the garment that either empowers you or renders you powerless before both the spiritual and physical realms.

Teaching Overview

  1. The spiritual world watches and responds to your lips, not your tongue—angels and demonic forces recognize you by your spiritual government, not by your name or outward appearance.
  2. Authority in any realm requires the proper government or garment—a judge cannot sentence you outside the courtroom, a police officer has no power without uniform, and spiritually, you cannot exercise authority in the wrong government.
  3. Your words create your spiritual clothing—curses, darkness, pride, and violence are garments you put on through your speech, and these garments determine what spirits are attracted to you and what battles you face.
  4. God is clothed in righteousness and light, and when you receive Jesus, your first government is the government of righteousness—this is the garment that grants you true power and authority before all spiritual forces.
  5. The only action required to change your spiritual position is to change your words—transformation of your government happens through the words of your lips, not through prayer alone, and this change breaks every chain and opens every door.

The Foundation: Power of Lips vs. Power of Tongue

  • The spiritual realm watches your lips, not your tongue—when Isaiah was caught in heaven, the angel touched his lips with a coal, not his tongue, because the spiritual world operates through what your lips say, not the sound your tongue makes.
  • Your lips represent your words before all spiritual beings—if someone cannot hear you, they can read your lips to understand what you are saying, which is why the Bible says "in whose lips is no guilt" (referencing the lips, not the tongue).
  • The tongue is the servant of the lips—the tongue serves to make the physical sound so men can understand you, but spiritually, the lips are what carry the power and what all heavenly and demonic forces recognize.

"There is a difference between the power of the tongue and the power of the lips. The spiritual world does not listen to your tongue, but it watches your lips."

The Mystery of Powerless Speaking

  • The mystery of speaking without power is rooted in not understanding the power of the lips and how God designed the corridors of power to function.
  • Many believers quote Scripture correctly, present themselves decently, and pray sincerely—yet nothing happens because they do not understand that authority requires the right spiritual government.
  • When you speak and there is no power, it is because you do not understand that every dimension of authority is matched to a specific government or garment.

"When you speak and there is no power, it is because you do not understand the power of the lips and what God designed the corridors of power to function."

Government and Authority: How Power Actually Works

  • A judge is only a judge when clothed in the government of a judge—outside the courtroom in regular clothes, a judge has no power to sentence anyone, but the moment the government is worn, the jurisdiction is activated.
  • A police officer has no authority without the uniform, and an undercover officer's lack of uniform is itself a uniform that serves a specific function—in both cases, the government determines the jurisdiction.
  • Authority does not reside in the person alone; it resides in the government worn by that person—a spiritual government must be worn to exercise spiritual authority, and without it, your words carry no power no matter how true they are.

"A judge is a judge when they are not in a court, but they have no power to sentence you until they wear the government of a judge."

Your Words Determine Your Spiritual Garment

  • When you speak curses, you put on the garment of curses—this garment cannot allow blessing to stay, and even if you pray, the blessing cannot attach to a body clothed in curses.
  • When you speak negatively, you clothe yourself in darkness—darkness is a sanctuary for evil spirits, and they are attracted to those who wear it, seeing them and joining them.
  • The words flowing from your lips are not temporary declarations; they are the fabric of the spiritual government you are weaving around yourself moment by moment.

"When you curse, you are putting on a garment that cannot allow blessing to stay."

"If you are going to shift from where you are to another realm, there has to be a transformation of your government."

Pride: The Government of Violence

  • Pride is a government that immediately clothes you in violence—when you wear pride, you immediately put on a yoke and chains that will pull you backward in every advance you attempt.
  • The Bible says violence covers the proud as a garment—pride says "I am self-sufficient" and "I am better," which means you have opposed God, because only God is truly better and self-sufficient.
  • God opposes the proud and keeps them at a distance from His presence—when God resists you and puts you far from Him, Satan will mess with you, and there is no protection and no covering.

"Whoever walks in pride, you put on a government of violence."

"The moment you were pride. God says I am sin because let me tell you what pride says. Pride says I am self-sufficient."

The Two Dangerous Governments: Curses and Darkness

  • When you speak bad words, you put on two garments simultaneously: the garment of curses and the garment of darkness—neither can be removed by prayer, only by changing your words.
  • The garment of curses means that even if you pray and fast, the blessing will not change because you have not changed your lips—people jump from church to church and nothing changes because they are clothing themselves with curses through their words.
  • The garment of darkness makes you a sanctuary for evil spirits—evil spirits are attracted to dark things, and when you are clothed in darkness from cursing and negative speech, they see it, and they come and join you.

"Some of you are clothed in certain ways. Simply because of what is coming out of your mouth."

The Role of Spiritual Government in Bible Characters

  • When Elijah transferred his mantle to Elisha, he did not pour oil on him; he took off his government and gave it to him—the moment Elisha received the government, he received a double portion of Elijah's spirit.
  • When the prodigal son returned to his father, his father could not restore him as a son until his government was changed—not only was his government changed, but he was given a better government that gave him authority to function as a son in the house.
  • Joseph's government was so powerful that even when Potiphar's wife falsely accused him, his master knew Joseph had not done anything because Joseph's government spoke for him—his spiritual covering was so evident that it testified to his innocence before words were even spoken.

"When Elijah wanted to transfer his anointing to Elisha with his spirit, he did not pour oil on him, but he took off his government and gave it to him."

Angels Recognize You by Your Government, Not Your Name

  • Angels are in rankings and have specific functions, and their governments restrict or define their jurisdiction—Gabriel did not come to Daniel daily but came in specific times because Gabriel recognized Daniel's spiritual reputation, not his name.
  • Every angel that functions or may be sent to you does not recognize you by your words, but by your government—they recognize what you are clothed in and respond accordingly.
  • Satan tries to create discord between the angelic hosts serving you so that you cannot be effective—if there is disconnect in the spirit, then you cannot be effective in your assignment.

"Angels don't recognize you in the basis of your name. They recognize you on the basis of your spiritual reputation."

"Every angel that functions or may be sent to you, does not recognize you on the basis of your words, but they recognize you by the basis of your government."

The Original Covering: Genesis 3 and Spiritual Reality

  • Your original covering was not the skin you have on you—the covering of man was the inner man covering the outer man, so that when Adam was in the garden, he did not need lamps to see because the inner man was glowing as the outer man.
  • When Adam and Eve spoke certain words and defiled themselves, the outward appearance was taken from them, and they realized they were not covered—God then clothed them with garments of skins, meaning He covered them with their true nature and said they would go back to the dust.
  • Every spiritual being can see anybody that is doing whatever spiritually—appearance does not fool angels, demons, or God, and all spiritual beings can see how you are clothed regardless of what the physical skin shows.

"Your original covering was not this skin that you have on you... The covering of men was the inner man, was the one who was covering the outer man."

The Importance of Proper Covering in Ministry

  • When the Levites were anointed by God to function in the temple, they had to dress a specific way so that the angels serving in the temple of God would permit them to function—the government determined the authority.
  • There is a context and propriety to what you wear spiritually and physically—if you came to preach wearing swimming trunks, people would say something is wrong, because the garment contradicts the assignment.
  • If you want to be effective spiritually, you have to be extremely aware of your covering—every level of elevation spiritually has to do with your garment, and without the right garment, no anointing will function.

"If you are going to be effective, spiritually, you have to be extremely aware, extremely listen to me, extremely aware of your covering."

Your Words Are the Only Way to Change Your Government

  • You do not dress yourself by prayer; you dress yourself by your lips—what comes out of your lips determines how you shall be dressed, and this is the only action the Lord asks from you.
  • The only effort required of a Christian is forgiveness—nothing else, because if you are always throwing out bad words, you are clothing yourself with something you will not be able to do anything about.
  • Change your words, and your government will change—the moment your words are not changing, you are trapped, and there is no prayer, binding, or spiritual warfare that will work until you change what comes out of your mouth.

"You don't dress yourself by prayer but you dress yourself by your lips."

"What guarantees the government that you have on? You want to see the power of God to change this? You want to see your words, carry power, change this. You want God to hear you from heaven, change this. You want demons to be afraid of you, change this."

God's Clothing and the Government of Righteousness

  • God is clothed in light and puts on light as His clothes—God is light because His very government is light itself, and the light shining in darkness means some are clothed in light and others are not.
  • When a man or woman receives Jesus, the first government they receive is the government of righteousness—you are not putting on your own clothes, but you are clothed in Jesus Christ Himself.
  • Every level of elevation in heaven is distinguished by garments—the Lord Jesus was born with gifts that testified of His spiritual covering, and He worked with a royal robe in His ministry.

"God is covered in light. He puts on light as his clothes. To the point that we say God is light, because it's very government is light itself."

The Call to Divine Transformation

  • The Lord continually changes the government of His servants as He elevates them—every time He wants to push someone higher, He changes their government, gives them different shoes, puts a different belt on them, and puts a sword in their hand.
  • There is a way to put on the right government and wear the right garment spiritually—there is a way to present yourself before the Lord so that Jesus Himself comes and dresses you.
  • The moment you change your words, every chain breaks, every door opens, and your government shifts from curses and darkness into righteousness and light.

"Every so often whenever you wants me to do something greater, you would change my government again. Every time you was pushing me higher, He changed my gut. Every time you wanted to elevate me, you would change my gunmen."

Key Definitions

Government — The spiritual garment, covering, or position of authority that determines your jurisdiction, power, and how all spiritual beings (angels, demons, and God) recognize and respond to you.

Lips — The spiritual representation of your words; what the spiritual realm watches and recognizes, distinct from the tongue which is the physical mechanism that produces sound for men to hear.

Authority — The power to act and be obeyed within a specific realm or context, which is only activated when you wear the proper government (e.g., a judge in court, a police officer in uniform).

Garment — The spiritual clothing created by your words, either of righteousness and light (when you speak blessings, truth, and honor) or of curses and darkness (when you speak negatively, curse, and demean).

Curse — A spiritual garment put on through negative words and speech that prevents blessing from staying with you, attracts demonic spirits, and creates battles that cannot be overcome through prayer alone.

Darkness — A spiritual government created through cursing and negative speech that becomes a sanctuary for evil spirits, drawing them to you because they are attracted to dark things.

Key Takeaways

  • Your words create your spiritual government — What you speak from your lips is not temporary; it is the fabric of the spiritual garment you wear, determining your authority before God, angels, and demons.

  • Authority requires the proper covering — No amount of qualification, education, or anointing functions without the right spiritual government; the government must match the assignment.

  • Demons and angels recognize your garment, not your name — Spiritual beings see your government and respond accordingly; they do not recognize you by your words alone but by the covering you wear.

  • Curses and darkness are garments you put on through your lips — When you curse, speak negatively, or engage in pride, you are literally clothing yourself in garments that prevent blessing, attract evil, and create endless battles.

  • Changing your words is the only action that changes your government — Prayer, fasting, and spiritual warfare cannot remove a garment of curses; only changing what comes from your lips transforms your spiritual position.

  • God is clothed in righteousness and light — When you receive Jesus, you are clothed in His righteousness, and this government is the only one that grants you true power, protection, and authority before all realms.

Reflection Questions

  1. What words are coming out of your mouth most consistently—words that build, bless, and honor, or words that tear down, curse, and diminish? What spiritual garment are you clothing yourself in every single day?

  2. You learned that angels and demons recognize you by your government, not by your name or even your anointing. If a spiritual being looked at you right now, what government would they see you wearing, and how is that affecting what is being drawn to you?

  3. Which teaching challenged you most: that curses are garments you wear, that pride creates violence and chains around you, or that changing your words is the only way to change your position? What is holding you back from making that change?

  4. Think of an area where you are praying, believing, or fasting for breakthrough—but nothing is happening. Could it be that you are still wearing the wrong government through what you are saying? What specific words would you need to stop speaking?

  5. What is the first step you need to take this week to begin changing your spiritual government? Will you repent of cursing, negative speech, or pride, and start speaking words that align with righteousness and light?

Prayers and Declarations

Opening Prayer

"Father, we thank you for this hour. We thank you for this day. We thank you for the things you are going to do amongst us. We thank you for your love, your compassion and your mercy. We thank you, the Father, we will continually see your mighty hand amongst us. Do something new in us. Do something new through us. In the name of your Son Jesus. Thank you for taking our sins. I iniquity is away. Thank you that today we will reap the benefits of being with Jesus."

Prophetic Declaration

"I'm here to declare to somebody this morning. The Lord is about to release your government. Your government is about to come upon you. I'm declaring a government of honour of glory and elevation. I'm here to declare to somebody that there is a shift that you are about to receive in the name of Jesus."
