The Science of Prayer: Becoming the Answer, Not Just the Asker
True prayer power is not developed in public — it is brewed in the secret place of intimacy with God.
Prayer is not merely a conversation with God — it is the forge where spiritual power is built. The difference between a prayer that feels empty and one that carries divine authority is not volume or emotion. It is the presence of a fortified inner man, developed through private, sincere, spiritual communion with God. Understanding this distinction transforms a believer from someone who asks heaven to intervene into someone through whom heaven intervenes.
Teaching Overview
- Weak prayer is the primary reason believers lack results — private prayer is what generates power for public ministry.
- There are two dimensions of prayer: asking God to intervene, and being the answer to prayer yourself.
- The Holy Spirit is a Person, not power — power is something God grants, and it is brewed through a private prayer life.
- A fortified inner man, built through praying in the Spirit, produces a spiritual person who judges all things and functions with no mockery.
- Heaven expects believers to be its ambassadors on earth — the intervention, not merely the petitioners for one.
Key Distinctions
| Prayer of Intervention | Prayer of Being the Answer | Weak Prayer | Powerful Prayer | Holy Spirit (Person) | Power (Attribute) | Natural Man | Spiritual Man | Connected (to Source) | Disconnected (from Source) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Asking God to act on your behalf | Acting as God's agent to deliver, heal, and free others | Prayer that carries no spiritual weight or authority | Prayer loaded with dunamis generated in the private place | The third Person of the Godhead — God Himself | An attribute God grants; the capacity to demonstrate divine authority | One who cannot receive the things of the Spirit — they are foolishness to him | One whose inner man is fortified through prayer in the Spirit | A believer through whom rivers of living water flow | A believer with the potential for connection but nothing flowing through |
| Source | Personal need or intercession for others | Intimacy with God in private prayer | Surface-level, occasional, or emotionally compensated prayer | Sincere, spiritual, private prayer over time | The Godhead — equal with the Father and the Son | God — even granted to demonic forces in appointed times | The unrenewed, unregenerated self | The inner man built up by praying in the Holy Spirit | The crystal sea and river of life in heaven | Absence of prayer and spiritual discipline |
| Who can operate in it | Any believer | Believers with a fortified inner man and developed prayer life | Believers who have neglected private prayer | Believers who have cultivated a consistent private prayer life | Acknowledged and yielded to by any believer | Released by God to those who have prepared capacity through prayer | Those who have not built their inner man | Those who pray in the Spirit, seek God, and fast in the Spirit | Those who withdraw into intimacy with God regularly | Those whose prayer life is dry or absent |
| Effect on others | Others may or may not experience a result; gradual recovery is possible | Immediate liberation, healing, and deliverance upon contact | Uncertainty, no confidence, no discernible results | Consistent results; no one walks away unchanged | Guides, empowers, and indwells the believer | Produces demonstrations of healing, deliverance, and authority | Cannot judge spiritual things or produce spiritual results | Judges all things; cannot be judged; produces results consistently | Others are spiritually nourished and transformed simply by proximity | Others find no answer; there is nothing flowing to give |
| Biblical example | Elders anointing the sick with oil — gradual recovery | Paul raising Eutychus; Elisha raising the Shunammite's son; Moses delivering Israel | — | Jesus withdrawing to pray then returning to teach with power present to heal | Acts 1 — apostles waiting for the Holy Ghost | Revelation — demons granted power from the bottomless pit | 1 Corinthians 2:14 — the natural man | 1 Corinthians 2:15 — he that is spiritual judges all things | Vision of believers connected to the river of life, pouring out living water | Vision of believers with potential connection but nothing flowing |
Why Prayer Feels Weak
- Weak prayer is a real spiritual condition — not a matter of effort or volume but of inner spiritual capacity.
- When prayer is weak, the believer believes to see God act; when prayer is powerful, the believer sees God act — these are two different experiences.
- Many attempt to compensate for weak prayer by going louder or more aggressive, but deep within the spirit, the powerlessness remains known.
"Faith is substance, faith is not believing. When your prayer is weak, you believe to see God. When your prayer is powerful, you will see God. Those are two different experiences."
The Two Dimensions of Prayer
- The first dimension is prayer directed toward God, asking Him to intervene in a situation.
- The second dimension is prayer that positions the believer to act on behalf of God as the answer to the situation.
- Not all believers operate in the same dimension — results in prayer are determined by which dimension a believer has developed.
"There are two dimensions of prayer. There is the prayer that I am speaking to God to intervene and there is the prayer that I am acting on behalf of God as the answer."
Being the Answer to Prayer
- When God wanted to free the children of Israel, He did not simply intervene directly — He sent Moses, who became the answer, the extension of God's hand.
- Paul raised Eutychus without petitioning God — he invoked the spirit of the boy back and returned to preaching; Elisha laid on the Shunammite's son and called his spirit back before the Lord.
- Every believer must understand which kind of Christian they are when it comes to results, because every result is predicated on prayer.
"When you understand the science of prayer, you become the answer to the prayer."
The Holy Spirit Is a Person, Not Power
- There is a critical misunderstanding between the Holy Spirit and power — the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead, not merely a force or energy.
- Power is an attribute God grants — distinct from God Himself, even though He is its producer and giver.
- God can grant power even to evil spirits, as in Revelation where demons from the bottomless pit were given power to afflict human beings — demonstrating that power flows from God's sovereign release, not His mere presence.
"The Holy Spirit is not power. The Holy Spirit is a person — the third person of the Godhead. He is a person. The Holy Spirit is not power. The Holy Spirit is God."
Private Prayer Generates Public Power
- The reason believers have no power when praying for others is the absence of a private prayer life where power is generated.
- Sincere, spiritual prayer — worshipping in the Spirit, seeking God in the Spirit and truth — generates dunamis and prepares someone for the full display of God's power.
- The apostles were locked together in prayer for an extended period before the promise of power came — public ministry was preceded by sustained private consecration.
"The reason why you have no power when you pray in public is because you don't have a private prayer life where you generate power."
Jesus: The Pattern of Withdrawal and Power
- Luke 5:16–17 shows the direct connection between Jesus withdrawing to pray and the power of the Lord being present to heal when He returned to teach.
- Power does not like excessive interaction — virtue leaves the vessel with every contact, and too much interaction can deplete the reserve before it is needed.
- When the woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus in a crowd, Jesus stopped and identified her — not because power drained Him, but because He was conscious that someone had drawn from what was available without asking permission.
"Once the power of God is in you, it is seeking an exit. It's not waiting for somebody to trust God. It's waiting for somebody to trust you belong to God."
Power Is Brewed in Secrecy
- Power is not practiced into existence by praying over the sick casually — it is brewed in the secret place of private prayer.
- When power is available, deliverance does not require the recipient to fast, repent first, or prepare — the goodness of God produces repentance after liberation.
- Those who appear to pray with immediate power carry an invisible history of a sustained prayer life that is not publicly visible.
"Power is brewed in secrecy in the place of prayer."
Heaven Expects You to Be the Intervention
- Asking heaven to intervene while neglecting to develop as a vessel is a contradiction — heaven is looking at the believer and saying, you are supposed to be the intervention.
- A believer is called to be God's ambassador, diplomat, and representative on earth — like a tributary connected to the main source, supplying living waters.
- The vision of believers connected to the river of life illustrated this: those connected poured out living water and wherever they stepped, life and growth flourished; those disconnected had the potential for connection but nothing flowing through.
"Heaven is looking saying you are supposed to be the intervention. You are my ambassador on earth. You are my diplomat on earth. You are my representative on earth."
The Fortified Inner Man and Spiritual Judgment
- Praying in the Spirit builds up the inner man — a fortified inner man operates with no mockery and produces consistent results that cannot be argued against.
- A spiritual man judges all things but cannot himself be judged — this is the authority available to those whose spirit is built up through prayer.
- A wounded spirit — produced by neglecting the inner man — leads to carried infirmities, diminished will, and susceptibility to doctrines of devils dressed as spirituality.
"A strengthened inner man has no mockery. Everything they say is happening."
Prayer Must Begin in the Spirit
- Prayer is spiritual and must be done by the spirit — the intellect aids expression, but expression must originate in the spirit.
- Surface-level prayer — worship, fasting, or seeking God done without spiritual engagement — yields no results and makes the believer's life harder.
- Praying about personal situations as the primary focus is a distraction — the Father already knows what believers need, and the believer's energy is better directed toward building power to be an answer for others.
"If your inner man is not fortified, your prayer becomes powerless because prayer is spiritual and it must be done by your spirit."
Key Definitions
Weak Prayer — Prayer that carries no spiritual weight or authority — done on the surface without engaging the spirit, producing no consistent results and no inner confidence.
Powerful Prayer — Prayer loaded with dunamis, generated through a sustained private prayer life of sincere spiritual communion with God.
Dunamis — The power of God generated through sincere, spiritual, private prayer — the capacity through which God's authority is demonstrated in healing, deliverance, and transformation.
The Answer to Prayer — A believer who has developed sufficient spiritual capacity through private prayer that their presence and words become the solution — not merely one who asks God to provide a solution.
Mockery — Making fun of or making light of something serious; in the context of ministry, it is claiming spiritual authority, gifts, or results that are not backed by a fortified inner man or evidenced by consistent fruit.
Judging All Things — The spiritual authority of a believer whose inner man is fortified — the capacity to speak, discern, and act on behalf of God over any situation, person, or spiritual force, not in condemnation but in divine governance.
Key Takeaways
- Weak prayer is produced by the absence of private prayer — results in public ministry are a direct reflection of what has or has not been developed in the secret place.
- Believers are called to be the answer to prayer, not merely the askers — understanding this shifts the entire posture of a believer's prayer life from petition to preparation.
- The Holy Spirit is a Person, and power is what God grants — failing to distinguish between the two leads to misunderstanding how power is accessed and why it may be absent.
- A fortified inner man judges all things and produces results with no mockery — building the inner man through praying in the Spirit is the foundation of genuine spiritual authority.
- Heaven expects the believer to be its ambassador on earth — the believer is designed to be a tributary of the river of life, and that flow only exists where private prayer has made the connection strong.
Reflection Questions
- When you pray for others, do you carry genuine confidence that something will happen — or do you pray hoping God will intervene while knowing inwardly that your prayer is powerless? What does your honest answer reveal about your private prayer life?
- Are you currently operating in the first dimension of prayer (asking God to intervene) or the second dimension (being the answer)? What specific steps would move you from one to the other?
- How much of your prayer time is spent on personal needs and situations — things God has already said He will provide — rather than on building your inner man and developing spiritual power for others?
- Where in your life do you see the evidence of a disconnected vessel — areas where there is the potential for spiritual flow but nothing is actually coming through? What would it take to restore that connection?
- If the people in your city, your family, or your community came to you in their most desperate moments, would they find an answer — or would they find someone hoping God shows up? What specific change in your prayer life would alter that outcome?
Prayers and Declarations
Congregation instructed to pray aloud:
"Father in the name of Jesus. I realize today that I have not been crafting prayer. Father, draw me back into intimacy. Fortify me and build my inner man that what I do in silence will speak to multitudes. Father, in the name of Jesus, build me now, strengthen me now, as I open my mouth, fill it with your words. Father, strengthen me now. Continue to build me, Lord, as I withdraw into intimacy with you, Father. May it be you that people see and not me. Father, build me and fortify me that I may become a righteous judge. And Father, I may craft and I may brew your power in prayer. Just as Jesus withdrew, Father, let me not be distracted by the multitudes. But Father, may I withdraw, whereas only you and I. Father, may I meditate on this word today. Build me now, Father. Build me now, strengthen me now, fortify me. Fortify me that I may be a vessel of your glory. That I may be a vessel of your mercy. That I may be a vessel of your deliverance. Father, build me now that I may glorify you in everyone's time of need. That when they come to me, Father, may I be that answer. May I be that answer. That answer to deliverance. That answer to poverty. That answer to weakness. That answer to curses. Father, fill my mouth now with your word, with your presence. Father, fill me now. Fortify me now. God, build me up."
Congregation instructed to lift their voices and press:
"Charge the atmosphere. Charge the atmosphere. Lift your voice. Let's press. I'm done with days of weakness. Father, may I be a powerful judge that when I stand before people, I may judge all, not only some, but all. Father, may my words carry power, power to convince, power to deliver, power to bring your mercy, power to vindicate those that are captive. Father, fill my voice now. Father, there would be nothing that would be before me that I could not judge. Because it's by your spirit that I speak. Father, may your language be in my mouth and your heart be mine. Build me a book of strength in me, Father. That I judge all things. That I judge all things. Thank you, Father. Build me now, strengthen me now, strengthen me now."
Congregation instructed to cry out for intimacy:
"Father, draw me into intimacy with you. Draw me into intimacy with you. That I may be a river, that I may be a well, that others can drink from. Father, not just myself, not just my brother, not just my sister, but your people. The people that you bring to me, Father, may I be the deliverer. May the words that I speak bring spirit and life. Father, fortify me now, strengthen me now. Strengthen me in every weakness, strength in every weakness. Fortify me, fortify me, that I may be that banner and that shield. For my family, for my city, for my community, for your people, that when they need an answer, they can come to me. That Father, as I withdraw myself, as I withdraw myself, and remove myself from all distractions, may I brew the power, the power that it takes to deliver, the power that it takes to bring your grace. I desire to be built up. Strengthen me, oh God. Fortify me now. Build my spirit, Lord. Build my spirit, Lord. Father, in the private place, I would be filled with your spirit. Father, in the private place that I would be built up and strengthened, oh God. That when I stand before people, your solution will be brought forth. Lord, may I be that river of living water that others can drink from. Build me up in the spirit. I am the answer — not only can I call on You to intervene, but Father, my manifestation, me being there is the answer. The answer to every prayer, the answer to every wish, the answer to every desire — everything that You've placed inside of them. May I be that answer when I stand before people. Father, help me to craft it, that intimacy with You — draw me unto You in the mighty name of Jesus. To be built up and to be strengthened in You, oh God."
Congregation instructed to continue pressing in prayer:
"That's right, the atmosphere now. That's right, the atmosphere now. That's right, the atmosphere now. Don't fall short. Don't fall short. Let's push. Calls me to know You intimately, God. Calls for me to know You more than I've known You before. That when I stand, it's in Your confidence. Strengthen me, oh God. Fortify me in Your truth. May Your spirit fill me afresh, oh God. May Your spirit rest upon me, oh God. Father, may Your language be in my mouth, Father. Father, that as You fill me with Your water, Your living water, Father, as You strengthen me. Father, may I bring heaven to earth. May I be that vantage point for so many to see You. May I be that perspective to know that prayer does work and it is a powerful God, but I stand with confidence that You built me to be a righteous judge for Your people. Continue to push. Continue to push. Continue to cry out. God, purify me and edify me. Ask for that intimacy. Ask for that closeness that you may have lost. Father, bless us now. Father, visit us now. And we feel Your presence. Descend on us now. Father, as we push."
Congregation instructed to pray and receive:
"Father, Your word and spirit come down as a boat, Lord. To speak as an oracle of God. To release solution — have mercy on us, Lord. And Your will according to every circumstance. Have mercy. Meet us now. Meet us now. In the quiet place, God meet me there. In the secret place, God meet me there. Make me a different man entirely, God, full of Your spirit, led by Your spirit, speaking as You would, God. Father, that I may be Your oracle. As You open my mouth and fill it, give me the confidence to stand in front of Your people. To stand in front of Your people, to be that edifice. The same grace that You've placed on this house, that You've placed on Your prophet — Father, may it rub off on us now. May it rub off on us now. May it rub off on us now. Just as the handkerchiefs for the apostles. May it rub off on us now, Lord. Transform my mind, God, and meet me in the quiet place, God. Meet me in private. Teach me to fear God. I am strengthening you. Feel it in every limb."
Prophetic declaration spoken over the congregation:
"Begin to meditate. Begin to meditate on that word. That you are the power. That the prayers — you are the answer. When people come to you, stand in the gap with that confidence. That there will be no mockery of His spirit. That there will be no mockery of His presence. Father, that we are the deliverers. We are Your banner. In the mighty name. In the mighty name. In the mighty name. In the mighty name. That the atmosphere around us will never grow stagnant. It will never grow stale. Fill me afresh. Now Father, every time that we find ourselves wandering left or wandering right, that we may withdraw back to that. You stand. You may fill us again. With Your glory. With Your power. Father, that Your grace is more than sufficient. Have mercy upon us now. Have mercy upon us now. Strengthen us in our time of light. With that strength that others need. When they come to us — Father, we are here. That we yield and we submit fully. Continue to push. Continue to push. Break through that next level. Break through that next dimension. May He give us new tongues now. That Your truth becomes my reflex, God. That You become my first nature."
