The Secret to Hearing God Clearly Hidden in One Verse

The Secret to Hearing God Clearly Hidden in One Verse

Teaching by Prophet Lovy L. Elias · Watch on YouTube · 22 November 2025

Spiritual ears are the gateway to God's will, His instructions, and true transformation — and without them, rebellion is inevitable.

Every believer has two sets of ears — physical and spiritual — and the difference between them determines everything about your relationship with God. The church is full of people who listen to good messages but never actually hear God, and this distinction is not minor: it is the root of rebellion, confusion, and spiritual stagnation. Hearing God's voice is not automatic — it is a posture, a discipline, and a treasure that most believers have not yet unlocked.

Teaching Overview

  1. Spiritual ears are distinct from physical ears and are the foundational requirement for experiencing God's will and receiving His instructions.
  2. Rebellion does not begin with disobedience — it begins with the inability to hear God.
  3. Vision without instruction is dangerous and produces confusion, doubt, and misinterpretation.
  4. True transformation is not restraint from sin — it is the complete removal of the desire for it through hearing God's voice.
  5. Posture determines whether a believer hears God — and without proper posture, God will be missed.

The Two Sets of Ears and Eyes

  • Every human being has two pairs of eyes and two pairs of ears — physical and spiritual — and they serve completely different functions.
  • Physical ears allow you to choose what to receive; spiritual ears allow you to receive all that God has for you, including conviction from the Holy Spirit.
  • The reason people can be in church and completely miss God is that their ears are affected — they are listening physically but not hearing spiritually.

"Hearing God's voice from God and hearing from your natural ears are completely different and they all have different functions."

The Value of Spiritual Ears

  • When someone has no ability to hear from God, that person will also not be able to work with God or know how to respond when He speaks.
  • God desires to elevate understanding and reason together with His people — but reasoning requires the capacity to hear.
  • Refusing to hear God, speaking without listening to Him, or treating His words as invaluable are consistent offences believers commit while expecting God to work with them.

"God cannot have your heart if He does not have your ears."

What Revelation 2:7 Reveals About Spiritual Hearing

  • The Holy Spirit can be speaking while the believer still needs to be commanded to hear — because the word was received by physical ears and not spiritual ones.
  • There are people in the church who shout, praise, and respond emotionally to good messages but never actually receive or hear anything from God.
  • Listening and hearing are not the same act — one is physical reception, the other is spiritual transformation.

"There are so many people in church that are listening to good messages but don't hear God."

Your Ears Reveal Who Your Father Is

  • Jesus did not question the Pharisees' sight when confronting their spiritual condition — He questioned their ears, saying they could not hear Him because they were children of their father, the devil.
  • Ears are the spiritual indicator of paternity — they reveal whether a person belongs to God, not outward behaviour or religious activity.
  • The children of Israel saw great wonders — the cloud by day, the pillar of fire — yet they remained stiff-necked because they could not hear, and so could not follow or obey God.

"Your ears reveal who your father is, not your eyes."

Rebellion Begins With Inability to Hear

  • The word of the Lord in Ezekiel 12:1–2 identifies a rebellious house not as one that heard God and disobeyed, but as one that had ears to hear and heard not.
  • Rebellion does not begin when a believer hears God's voice and disobeys — it begins when the believer cannot hear God at all, and automatically does their own thing.
  • An unsupervised child will wreck the house — similarly, those who cannot hear God are not willfully disobedient in the conventional sense; they are spiritually unsupervised and cannot change through external enforcement.

"Rebellion begins when you cannot hear God — you will automatically do your own thing."

The Power of God's Voice

  • No man can hear God and resist Him — His words are like fire: they carry, lift, and move the one who hears them.
  • If demons respond to the voice of God through a man and immediately obey, the spirit of a believer should respond the same way — but it cannot if the spiritual ears are closed.
  • Physical obedience is possible without the Spirit leading — but only those who hear the word are truly delivered, because the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and order requires hearing.

"He sent His word, and healed them, and delivered them from all their destructions."

Vision Without Instruction Is Dangerous

  • Instructions do not come visually — they come audibly; what you see has no meaning without listening, and expressions are severely limited when everything is centred on picture alone.
  • Peter came out of a God-given trance and doubted, not because the vision was false, but because he saw without hearing — there was no voice accompanying the instruction, only the narration of what he was looking at.
  • Any time a dream or vision is received without instruction, there is a problem — God does not show bondage without also showing the way out.

"Visions without the voice become dangerous. Visions without instructions become dangerous."

God Opens the Ears in Dreams, Not Just the Eyes

  • In Job 33:15–17, when deep sleep falls upon man, God opens the ears — not the eyes — and seals instruction there, to withdraw a person from their own purpose and hide pride from them.
  • Seeking dream interpretation is evidence that the instruction was missed — dreams do not come without instruction, but the instruction is sealed in the hearing, not the seeing.
  • The Pharaoh's dream disturbed him because he could not unseal the voice within it; when Joseph came and heard the dream, he unsealed the instruction that God had placed there.

"You seek dream interpretation because you think dreams don't come with instruction. You cannot see a vision without the voice. God will open your ears and put the instruction there."

The Language of the Prophetic

  • Visions are the primary language of God — but instructions must follow, because without the voice, the vision functions like sign language to someone who cannot read it.
  • Someone who is prophetic hears a voice when another person tells them a dream — to them it is a spiritual alphabet, to the dreamer it was sign language.
  • Daniel was skilled in dream interpretation — it is not merely spiritual gifting but a developed skill, requiring the ears to be open to the explanatory voice of God.

"It's a language. So you are thinking God is trying to communicate in your language. No, visions is the primary language, but the instructions must follow."

Purity vs. True Deliverance

  • Living a pure and restrained life is commendable, but restraint alone does not open a person's spiritual ears to hear God.
  • God's voice changes a person so completely that there is no longer a desire for what was once tempting — not because of willpower, but because the appetite completely shifts.
  • True deliverance is not the absence of action but the absence of desire — when there is no more wrestling, and righteousness simply becomes who you are.

"The deliverance is when there is no more desire for those things. So you are not wrestling — it's just who you are."

Posture and the Requirement to Hear on God's Conditions

  • Everything is centred on posture — anyone who lacks posture will miss God.
  • Adam and Eve's fall did not open their ears; it dulled them — every human being is born with dull ears, and without intentional spiritual cultivation, those ears move toward complete deafness.
  • Hearing God is not available on the believer's own conditions — it is available only on His conditions.

"Everything is centered on posture. Anyone who lacks posture will miss God."

Key Definitions

Spiritual ears — The capacity to receive all that God communicates, including conviction, instruction, and the meaning behind visions — entirely distinct from the function of physical hearing.

Rebellion — Not primarily the act of disobeying a known command, but the state of being unable to hear God, which causes a person to automatically follow their own way.

Vision without instruction — A God-given dream or vision received without the accompanying voice that explains its meaning, producing confusion, doubt, and dangerous misinterpretation.

Knowing — A depth of certainty that goes beyond belief; the movement from faith-based acceptance of truth to intimate, experiential certainty of God — as Jesus demonstrated: "I know the Father and the Father knows Me."

True deliverance — The complete removal of desire for sin, not through restraint or willpower, but through transformation that comes when the voice of God is truly heard — so that righteousness becomes the nature of the person, not a discipline imposed on them.

Sealed instruction — The explanatory voice of God that accompanies a vision or dream and is placed in the spiritual ears; when the ears are closed, the instruction remains sealed and the vision becomes confusing or misleading.

Key Takeaways

  • God cannot have your heart if He does not have your ears — Spiritual hearing is not a bonus feature of the Christian life; it is the gateway to everything God wants to do in and through a believer.
  • Rebellion begins with the inability to hear God, not with an act of disobedience — This reframes how the church should approach behavioural change: enforcing outward compliance without addressing spiritual hearing will never produce lasting transformation.
  • Vision without instruction is dangerous — Receiving dreams and visions without the accompanying voice of God opens believers to confusion, false interpretation, and spiritual deception.
  • True deliverance removes the desire, not just the behaviour — Teaching people to restrain themselves is not the same as leading them into freedom; genuine transformation through hearing God's voice eliminates the appetite for sin entirely.
  • Hearing God happens on His conditions, not yours — Posture, humility, and a genuine desire to understand are prerequisites to spiritual hearing, and without them, even sincere believers will consistently miss God.

Reflection Questions

  1. When you encounter trouble or blessing, how do you respond — and does your response reveal that you have truly heard from God, or that you have only been listening with your physical ears?
  2. Are you currently enforcing outward obedience in an area of your life — restraining behaviour without a genuine change of desire? What does that reveal about the state of your spiritual hearing?
  3. Have you ever received a dream, vision, or impression from God that left you confused or doubtful? In light of this teaching, what does that confusion tell you about whether you heard the instruction alongside the vision?
  4. What would it practically look like this week for you to posture yourself to hear God — not just attend to religious activity, but genuinely open your spiritual ears to His voice?
  5. Is there an area where you are asking God questions not to truly hear His answer, but to validate what you have already decided? What would it require to slow down and actually listen?

Prayers and Declarations

"Father God, we come to you right now and we just ask that you give us the ability to hear your word, Lord, and that our ears will be open to everything that you say for us — for those visions, for those dreams, Lord God — and that everything will be as you have it to be."

"God bless you and may the peace of Yahweh rest on you."
