Breaking Yokes Pt. 2: Removing the Burden That Produces the Yoke
True spiritual freedom begins not with breaking the yoke, but with removing the burden that holds it in place.
Spiritual bondage is rarely addressed at its root. Most people fight yokes — the visible symptoms of oppression — without ever identifying the burden underneath that gives the yoke its power. Understanding the difference between a burden and a yoke is not theological theory; it is the difference between temporary relief and permanent freedom.
Teaching Overview
- Addressing yokes without removing the underlying burden leaves a person in continued bondage, regardless of outward circumstances.
- Every yoke — whether from God, generational inheritance, or satanic bondage — determines whose field you work and who benefits from your labour.
- Unmet need and impatience are entry points that cause people to come under wrong, destructive yokes.
- The name and family line you are born into carries a yoke and burden — either from God or from the enemy — that must be consciously identified and addressed.
- Coming under God's yoke through the right covering is the only path to working your own field and benefiting from your own anointing.
Key Distinctions
| Burden | Yoke | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The root spiritual cause of oppression | The activity or bondage that results from the burden |
| Analogy | The virus | The symptoms (fever, mucus) |
| What happens if ignored | The yoke remains, regardless of outward change | Temporary relief, but bondage continues |
| Origin | Generational inheritance, personal sin, satanic assignment, or God's assignment | Placed by God, family lineage, or the enemy |
| How it is transferred | Through family name and bloodline | Through need, impatience, or spiritual covering |
| How it is broken | Revelation, identification, and spiritual intervention | Lifted only when the burden underneath is removed |
| God's Yoke | Satan's Yoke | |
|---|---|---|
| Nature | Light; tied to divine purpose and blessing | Heavy; tied to slavery and exploitation |
| Who benefits | The one carrying the yoke | The one who placed the yoke |
| Result of labour | You eat of what you work for | You work but never fully receive the harvest |
| Model | Jesus — always about His Father's business | Jacob under Laban — years of service with no true gain |
| Entry point | Surrender, covering, and faithfulness | Unmet need, hunger, and impatience |
| Working Your Own Field | Working Someone Else's Field | |
|---|---|---|
| Who receives the harvest | You | The one who placed the yoke |
| Nature of the arrangement | God's blessing flowing through your anointing to you | Your anointing exploited for another's benefit |
| Example | Jacob after the burden was lifted | Jacob under Laban |
| Effect of qualifications | Your abilities advance your God-given purpose | Your degrees and gifts benefit someone who never worked for them |
The Difference Between a Burden and a Yoke
- The burden is the root cause; the yoke is the symptom it produces.
- Changing location, relationships, or circumstances does not remove the yoke if the burden underneath remains.
- Fighting spiritual problems by addressing only what is visible — the symptoms — is the most common error in spiritual warfare.
"If you try to get rid of the yoke without the burden, you are still in bondage. If you don't get rid of the burden, you are still under a yoke. It doesn't matter what country you go to. It doesn't matter what city you move to. It doesn't matter who you will marry again. It doesn't matter where you go. If the burden is not lifted from you, you're still under yoke."
Spiritual Sight vs. Natural Sight
- People consistently deal with what they can see rather than what is happening spiritually.
- A flu virus produces symptoms — fever and mucus — but treating the symptoms does not destroy the virus.
- Spiritual insight is essential because you cannot fix a spiritual problem through natural means alone.
"Everybody, when it comes to spiritual things, people are usually dealing with what they are seeing, they are not dealing with what is happening spiritually. This is why it is very important to have insight of spiritual things."
The Blessing of Jacob and the Nature of Yokes
- Isaac's blessing over Jacob established a covenant of fruitfulness — "the smell of a field which the Lord has blessed" — that followed Jacob regardless of circumstance.
- The blessing declared that nations and people would serve Jacob, meaning the blessing placed a yoke on others to work toward his increase.
- God cannot bless what you do not bring before Him.
"From that moment, it did not matter where Jacob went. You still cause for me, you will multiply ten more."
God's Yoke vs. Satan's Yoke
- The yoke of God is light because it is not a slave-master relationship — it is the yoke of blessing and divine purpose.
- Jesus operated under His Father's yoke, which is why He was always about His Father's business.
- Satan's yoke makes you work without receiving the full fruit of your labour — you will plant but never fully benefit from the harvest.
"If the Yoke comes from God, it will benefit you. If it comes from the devil, you will have wasted years because you will work, but you will never eat of what you're working for. You will serve, but you will never benefit from that service. You will plant, but you will never benefit from the harvest."
Generational Yokes and the Power of Family Names
- Every person born into a family inherits the burden and yoke of that family — whether a blessing or a curse.
- The family name is not merely social identity; it is a spiritual declaration of which yoke and burden a person enters into.
- Even a Christian born into a cursed family remains under that curse unless they deliberately come under a different yoke.
"This is why for me and you, you carry your father's name. It's because you are entering into that family. And that family has a yoke and a burden that has been given, either from God or either from the enemy."
The Ox Anointing and Exploitation of Your Gift
- The ability to generate wealth is an anointing — described as the "ox anointing" — the God-given capacity to work and produce.
- When someone else identifies and captures that anointing, they place a yoke on you and receive the benefit of what your anointing produces.
- Education, qualifications, and gifts mean nothing in isolation — they serve whoever's yoke you are under.
"The ability to make wealth is the anointing of a yoke or an ox. If somebody sees that anointing on you and is able to make you work for them, immediately they benefit from your anointing because you are under the yoke."
Jacob Under Laban: A Portrait of Wrong Yoke Bondage
- Jacob's need — his desire for a wife — created the opening through which Laban placed a yoke on him.
- Jacob's anointing and the blessing of God made Laban wealthy, yet Jacob worked years without receiving what was rightfully his.
- The burden on Jacob gave Laban continual leverage; once the burden was broken, Laban had no power to hold him.
"Jacob now has become an ox for somebody else, working for somebody else, not for himself. Because there is a burden that is plain."
Hunger and Impatience as Entry Points for Wrong Yokes
- Personal hunger and impatience — not only generational sin — can drive a person into destructive bondage.
- Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness precisely to place Him under a yoke through His hunger; Jesus refused every offer.
- The only yoke worth carrying is the yoke of Jesus, because He is the only master whose service produces genuine benefit.
"Some of you are in bondage, not because of your generational fathers or your mothers or anything. It is your hunger. Your hunger. Your impatience. There are scores you to enter into a wicked yoke."
The Right Covering and the Freedom It Produces
- Being under the right spiritual covering positions you to benefit from God's blessing flowing through that covering.
- Faithfulness to right covering is not transactional — it is the alignment that releases God's blessing into your life.
- Freedom in the leader creates freedom in the sons and daughters; bondage in leadership produces bondage in those who follow.
"You are benefiting from faithfulness. You are under the right covering. There is no bondage in us. There is freedom."
The Call to Investigate Your Yoke
- Self-examination is required before deliverance is possible — you cannot break what you have not identified.
- Investigation includes tracing patterns across generations: what is happening to you was likely happening to those before you.
- The question every believer must ask is not just "what is wrong?" but "what burden has produced this yoke?"
"You need to ask yourself this: what yoke am I under? What is the burden of the family? Why are things going wrong? You need to investigate. If you need to make some phone calls to people, make phone calls and realize — what is happening to me was happening to somebody before me."
Key Definitions
Burden — The root spiritual cause of oppression; the underlying condition that produces and sustains a yoke. It cannot be resolved by changing outward circumstances.
Yoke — The bondage, activity, or assignment that results from a burden; the mechanism by which a person is made to labour for another's benefit rather than their own.
Ox Anointing — The God-given ability to generate wealth and produce increase; a divine capacity that, if captured by the wrong master, is exploited to build someone else's kingdom instead of your own.
Generational Burden — A spiritual weight inherited through family lineage — whether a curse or a blessing — that determines the yoke a person is born under and the field they will naturally work.
Right Covering — Spiritual alignment under a God-appointed authority through which divine blessing, protection, and freedom flow to those who remain faithful.
Field — The domain of purpose, productivity, and blessing in which a person is called to labour; the question is always whether you are working your own field or building someone else's at your own expense.
Key Takeaways
- Removing the yoke without removing the burden produces no lasting freedom — circumstantial change — a new city, a new marriage, a new country — cannot break what is rooted in the spirit.
- The yoke you are under determines who receives the fruit of your labour — under God's yoke, your anointing builds your own life; under Satan's yoke, it enriches the one who enslaved you.
- Your family name is a spiritual inheritance, not just a social identity — it declares the burden and yoke of the bloodline you entered, which must be consciously addressed and, where necessary, broken.
- Hunger and impatience are dangerous spiritual vulnerabilities — unmet need, left unguarded, opens the door to destructive yokes that can waste years of anointing and effort.
- Faithfulness under right covering releases the blessing of God — alignment with God-appointed authority is not obligation but positioning, and it produces freedom rather than bondage.
Reflection Questions
- When you examine the recurring patterns in your life — financially, relationally, in your health or career — can you trace those patterns back through your family line? What burden might be producing the yoke you are experiencing?
- Whose field are you currently working? Are the gifts, qualifications, and anointing God has placed on your life producing harvest in your own life, or primarily in someone else's?
- In what area of your life has hunger or impatience caused you to enter into a yoke you should not be under? What would it cost you to refuse that yoke?
- Are you under a covering — spiritually, relationally, ministerially — where faithfulness is genuinely opening doors of blessing? If not, what is preventing you from pursuing right alignment?
- What specific investigation do you need to conduct — including conversations with family members — to understand the burden that has shaped your life's patterns, so that you can bring it before God for identification and deliverance?
Prayers and Declarations
"Say that, Papa. As somebody tap:"
"I will not become an ox for somebody else. I will not become an ox for somebody else."
Seed prayer instruction — "Lord open my eyes to see the burden and the yoke that is in my family because you can't get rid of something you cannot see and you don't know."
"Lord open my eyes to see the burden and the yoke that is in my family because you can't get rid of something you cannot see and you don't know."
Closing Prayer
"Father, I pray for everybody that is watching. No matter where they are, no matter what the situations are in their lives. Lord, you know them more than they know themselves, because You are the God who ordained their life from eternity. Lord, I pray that their eyes will be opened, that everything in them will be unlocked, that they should know Father what yoke and burden they are carrying, so that the things that have been going wrong in their lives will be reversed. Open their eyes during this time of fasting. Open their eyes Father so that these yokes and these burdens may be destroyed and be lifted. Father, I bless You for who You are and what You continue to do in our lives in the name of Your only Son Jesus, amen."
