Destroying the Spirit of Fear: God's Chosen, the Prophetic Call, and the Truth About Fear
Destroying the Spirit of Fear · Part 2 of 2
You are not disqualified by your weakness — you are selected by God's grace for an assignment only His power can complete.
Every believer is called to function in the prophetic — not as a title, but as a way of being led by the Spirit of God. The enemy's greatest weapon against those God has chosen is not a demon called fear — it is a lie about fear itself. Understanding the true nature of fear, the prophetic calling on every life, and the grace that qualifies the unqualified is the foundation of walking in the fullness of what God has prepared.
Teaching Overview
- Every believer is called to function in the prophetic to hear God's voice and be ordered by the Spirit in every step they take.
- God selects and qualifies people who are unqualified by man's standards, using His grace and power to accomplish what human strength cannot.
- There is no demon called fear — fear is a response of the soul, and understanding its true nature dismantles its power over God's chosen.
- Serving God must be done with your spirit, not your feelings or emotions, and spiritual disciplines like prayer, fasting, and meditation are the pathway into deeper dimensions of God's kingdom.
- Testimony is the weapon of the overcomer — reminding yourself of what God has done builds the faith to receive what He will do again.
Key Distinctions
| Fear of the Lord | Fear of Men | Fear of the Unknown | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Reverence and awe of God — the recognition of who He is | Excessive reverence of human achievement that diminishes your sense of calling | Panic caused by the absence of information about what comes next |
| Its source | An attribute of the Holy Spirit | A soul response rooted in comparison and self-diminishment | A soul response rooted in uncertainty and lack of trust |
| How it manifests | Worship, surrender, and the pursuit of God's presence | Tongue-tied silence before people you admire; inability to step into God's assignment | Anxiety about provision, timing, or outcomes you cannot yet see |
| Whether it is healthy | Yes — it is the beginning of wisdom and a mark of the Spirit-filled life | No — it is a counterfeit reverence that redirects worship away from God | No — it is a paralysing response that the enemy exploits |
| How it is overcome | By being filled with the Seven Attributes of the Holy Spirit through sustained prayer and seeking God | By recognising that man does not choose you — God does | By building a testimony record of God's past faithfulness as evidence for the future |
| Biblical grounding | Isaiah 11; Revelation 1, 3, 5 — the fear of the Lord is one of the seven Spirits of God | The call of Moses, Jacob, and others God chose over man's preferred candidates | Revelation 12:11 — they overcame by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony |
| Praise | Testimony | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Declaring the greatness and nature of God | Recounting a specific act of God's faithfulness in your own life |
| Its focus | Who God is | What God has done |
| Its weapon | Exaltation | Evidence |
| How it overcomes | Lifts God above the situation | Dismantles fear by providing tangible proof that God can do it again |
| Biblical grounding | General worship throughout Scripture | Revelation 12:11 — "the word of their testimony" |
| School of Ministry | Impartation through Service | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Formal theological or ministry education | Learning ministry by serving under an anointed man or woman of God |
| How knowledge is transferred | Academic instruction about biblical history and doctrine | First-hand encounter with the Spirit through proximity and service |
| What it produces | Information about ministry | Spiritual formation and activation for ministry |
| Its limitation | Cannot impart what it has not demonstrated | Requires finding and committing to a genuine anointed leader |
| Biblical grounding | No biblical prophet or apostle was trained in a school | Joshua under Moses; Elisha under Elijah |
| Emotional Peace | True Peace in God | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A felt sense of calm and comfort | A settled confidence that God is in control regardless of circumstances |
| How it feels | Warm, fuzzy, sensational | May feel unsettling — God's assignments often disturb before they deliver |
| What it depends on | Emotional state and circumstances | Knowledge that nothing touches you before it passes through Jesus |
| Where it comes from | Feelings and situations aligning comfortably | Knowing that all things work together for good for those who love God |
| Biblical grounding | A common but mistaken expectation in popular Christianity | Philippians 4:7 — peace that passes all understanding; Romans 8:28 |
The Prophetic Is for Every Believer
- It is God's will that every person — evangelist, pastor, teacher, apostle — functions in the prophetic.
- The prophetic is the revealer of things hidden in the heavenly realm; it allows God to speak specifically about situations no scripture verse addresses by name.
- The goal is to be so led by the Holy Spirit that every step taken is ordered by God, and many people are blessed as a result.
"My desire is that you grow into a place where you are led by the Holy Spirit, where you can know His voice, you will know His still small voice, where He wants you to go, where He wants you to step, so that many people will be blessed because of you."
Willingness to Change and Receive
- Entering a new level requires letting go of what you already know and coming with an open heart.
- God is a gentleman — He will not force entry into a closed heart but will wait for willingness to change.
- A personal, decisive posture of expectation — "I am not leaving until I am blessed tonight" — is what positions a person to receive from God.
"If you let go of what you know, you can grow."
God's Selection of the Unqualified
- In every family, God plants a seed — a person who is different, set apart, and chosen for a specific assignment.
- Being perceived as the problem child, the difficult one, or the misfit is not a disqualification; Jacob was chosen over Esau while still appearing as the trickster.
- Man's standards of reputation, background, and strength will always fall short of what God is calling you to do — that gap is intentional, so that only His grace can fill it.
"God will always look for Moses as one exile. God will always look for Jacob, so people thought they are still supplanting like they used to. God will always seek those who are not qualified according to man's standards, but He will qualify them by His grace, His power and anointing."
Serving God With Your Spirit
- God cannot be served with feelings, emotions, or sentimentality — He must be served with your spirit.
- The lifestyle of a spiritual leader is one of continuous prayer and seeking God on behalf of those entrusted to you — physical and spiritual family alike.
- Impartation through serving under an anointed leader surpasses any school of ministry, because you learn first-hand what God can do through a surrendered vessel.
"You cannot serve God without your spirit. If your spirit is not in what God has called you to do, don't do it — because you destroy yourself and destroy other people."
There Is No Demon Called Fear
- The so-called "spirit of fear" or "demon of fear" does not exist — it is a lie from the pit of hell.
- Fear is a response of the soul, not a demonic entity, and understanding this distinction restores the believer's power.
- There are three types of fear addressed in Scripture: the fear of the Lord (reverence for God), the fear of men (excessive reverence of human achievement), and the fear of the unknown (panic caused by lack of information).
"There is no demon called fear. There is no Spirit of fear. It's a lie of the devil. It's a lie from the pit of hell."
The Fear of the Lord as an Attribute of the Holy Spirit
- The fear of the Lord is not terror — it is reverence for God, and it is one of the seven attributes of the Holy Spirit described in Isaiah 11.
- To be truly filled with the Holy Spirit, all seven attributes must be manifest — speaking in tongues alone does not indicate fullness of the Holy Spirit.
- These attributes are only received through sustained presence with God, prayer, and seeking Him continually.
"The fear of the Lord is an attribute of the Holy Spirit. You only receive this by being where God is 24/7, seeking Him and praying. This is when you receive this."
True Peace Is Not an Emotional Sensation
- The biggest lie about God's direction is that if it comes from Him, it will always feel peaceful and comfortable.
- Abraham was troubled when told to sacrifice Isaac; Jesus in Gethsemane cried out "if it is Your will, not mine" — God's assignments often disturb before they deliver.
- True peace is not a fuzzy feeling — it is the settled confidence that nothing can touch you before it passes through Jesus, and that all things work together for good.
"You have been trained that you will have an emotional sensation. No. Why is it saying it passes all understanding? He's saying that other people will look at you and say, what is wrong with you? You should be crying, you should be going crazy. But you are so at peace because you know all things work out for good."
Testimony as the Weapon of the Overcomer
- A testimony is not praise — praise declares who God is, but testimony recounts what God has specifically done in your own life.
- Revelation 12:11 declares that they overcame the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony — the power is in the specific record of God's faithfulness.
- Writing down and rehearsing what God has done builds the faith and authority to receive it again — what you have touched before, you have power to touch again.
"They overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. A testimony is not praise. Praise is saying, God, You are great, God, You are amazing. But a testimony is saying, My God, You delivered me here. You blessed me here."
The Danger of Premature Ordination and Titles
- Ordaining someone whom God has not yet called and prepared does not bless them — it destroys them.
- Joshua, though Moses' closest aide, was deliberately skipped when God anointed seventy elders, because he was not yet ready — and his faithfulness through that season was what prepared him for succession.
- Titles handed out prematurely produce sons of Sceva — people who carry a name but no power, who do not pray for people and have no genuine pastoral calling.
"It is very dangerous. If you go and ordain somebody that in the realm of the spirit they are not recognised, you just destroy their life."
Key Definitions
The Prophetic — The God-given capacity to hear His voice and be led by the Spirit in directions and specifics that no scripture verse addresses by name; it is not limited to prophets but is God's will for every believer.
Fear of the Lord — Reverence and awe of God; one of the seven attributes of the Holy Spirit listed in Isaiah 11, received not through tongues alone but through sustained prayer and seeking God's presence.
Fear of Men — An excessive reverence of human achievement and reputation that causes a person to see themselves as less than those God has called them to stand before, resulting in silence and inaction.
Fear of the Unknown — A soul response of panic triggered by the absence of information about what comes next — when provision, timing, or outcome cannot yet be seen.
Testimony — Not praise, which declares the nature of God, but a specific account of a concrete act of God's faithfulness in a person's own life; the weapon of the overcomer in Revelation 12:11.
Serving God With Your Spirit — Engaging in ministry and the work of God from your spirit rather than from feelings, emotions, or sentimentality; the standard Paul modelled in Romans 1:9.
Impartation — The transfer of spiritual grace, anointing, and understanding that occurs through proximity to and service under a genuine anointed leader — the biblical model of ministry formation as opposed to academic theological education.
Key Takeaways
- Every believer is called to function in the prophetic — this is not a title reserved for the few but God's will for all, so that every step taken is ordered by the Spirit and others are blessed through you.
- God deliberately chooses the unqualified — your weakness, background, and reputation are not obstacles to God's plan; they are the very conditions that make His power visible and create a testimony.
- There is no demon called fear — fear is a response of the soul, and identifying it correctly strips it of the supernatural power the enemy falsely attributes to it.
- True peace is not an emotional sensation — it is the settled confidence that Jesus stands between you and everything that would come against you, enabling calm where the world expects panic.
- Testimony is a weapon — writing down and rehearsing what God has specifically done in your life is not nostalgia; it is spiritual warfare, because it proves God will do it again.
Reflection Questions
- In what areas of your life are you waiting to feel emotionally peaceful before you obey what God has already spoken? What would it look like to move in confidence instead?
- Where have you allowed the fear of men — someone else's reputation, achievement, or opinion — to silence what God has told you to say or do?
- Have you been serving God from your feelings, your compassion, or your personality — rather than from your spirit? What would change if your spirit, not your emotions, led your service?
- When did God last do something specific and tangible in your life? Have you written it down? Who would benefit from hearing that testimony this week?
- Is there an area where you have accepted the label of "unqualified" — from others or from yourself — that God may actually have chosen as the starting point of your greatest assignment?
Prayers and Declarations
Opening Prayer
"Father, we glorify You, Dean. We thank You that there is no other God except You. We thank You that lot in Your presence, not only are we changed, but we are strengthened. I pray now in the name of Jesus. Let everybody that is here and everybody that is at home — may they receive new strength for what You have prepared for them. May each and every person that has a burden today, I decree and declare that that burden will be lifted off them in the name of Jesus. I pray, O Father, right now, that there will be a prophetic transformation — that You give them the eye of an eagle, that they will see what is to come, that they will understand, Lord, You are in control of all things at all times. I pray now, O Father, let the spirits of the Lord carry them and lift them up higher than they have ever been. In Jesus' mighty name."
Congregational instruction — "Lift your right hand to heaven. Say this, Lord:"
"Lord. Thank you. Thank you. That You have selected me, to be the leader of my family. Out of my father's house, I am the one that will possess the land. Thank you for giving me this privilege. Thank you for giving me this grace. In Jesus' mighty name. In Jesus' mighty name."
Congregational instruction — "I want you to pray now. You are going to command and you are going to eject every thought that ever came out of you that was not right:"
"Today I reverse every thought that came out of me that I never policed. I arrest those thoughts and I nullify them in the name of Jesus. Lord, cleanse my conscience. Remove everything in my conscience that does not originate from You. Every trauma from when I was a child, every thing that put limits on me — Lord, I remove every trauma. Remove every trauma in my life in Jesus' name. In Jesus' name. In Jesus' name."
Congregational instruction — "Say Father in the name of Jesus:"
"Father, in the name of Jesus. I pray right now that from this day, I'll be spiritually alert like never before. Never before. I will be vigilant. I will be vigilant. I will be aware. I will be aware of every single thing that is happening with me. From this day, O Lord, I remove every idol in my life and I place You back as the center and the source of my life. In Jesus' mighty name. Jesus' mighty name. In Jesus' mighty name. In Jesus' mighty name. In Jesus' mighty name. In Jesus' mighty name."
Closing Prayer of Blessing
"Lift your hands to heaven, everybody. Father, I bless their giving. I bless everything that they have. I bless their hearts. I bless everything that is in them. I bless that, Father — whatsoever they shall touch, whatsoever they shall desire this day, let it be given unto them. My prayer is this, O God, that each and every one of them will move in a prophetic dimension like never before. Let them rise higher and higher. May fear be away from them. May fear forget their address. May fear forget how to find them. May victory be theirs from this day, in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus."
