God's Mother Tongue: Knowing God Through Relationship, Protocol, and Spiritual Mentorship

Keeping God's law is not the same as knowing God — true access to Him flows through relationship, experienced mentorship, and understanding His ways.

The difference between serving a theory of God and serving God Himself determines whether you can hear Him, walk with Him, and survive the consequences of missing His protocol. Scripture is not the Word — and religious observance is not relationship. God has a language, and that language requires more than a Bible; it requires someone who knows Him.

Teaching Overview

  1. God elevates relationship above law — He overlooked His own commandment to defend Moses because Moses had moved beyond law into friendship with God.
  2. Scripture and the Word are not the same thing — Jesus Himself declared there is no eternal life in the Scriptures; the Word is a Person.
  3. The ways of God must be introduced through experienced mentors, not discovered alone — there are things the Holy Spirit will not teach you that only experience can.
  4. Missing God's protocol carries divine consequences — not demonic ones — as seen in God seeking to kill Moses on the road to Egypt.
  5. To be spiritual is to be a mediator between God and man — anyone who claims spirituality but is of no practical good to human beings is carnal, not spiritual.

God Elevates Relationship Above Religious Law

  • Moses transgressed God's explicit commandment by marrying an Ethiopian woman, yet God defended him — because Moses had moved beyond law into intimate friendship with God.
  • When Aaron and Miriam criticized Moses, God rebuked them directly: to prophets He speaks in visions and dreams, but to Moses He speaks mouth to mouth, face to face.
  • Keeping God's law demonstrates faithfulness, but it does not grant access to God's confidence — He does not reveal His heart to servants the way He does to friends.

"Many of you think you will walk with God simply because you kept his law. You are deceiving yourself."

"God would rather have a friend. That is why Jesus looked at his disciples and says, 'I no longer call you servants, but I call you friends.'"

Scripture Is Not the Word

  • Jesus explicitly told the Pharisees: "Search the scriptures for in them ye think ye have eternal life" — He was not affirming Scripture-searching as the path to life; He was exposing its insufficiency without relationship with Him.
  • The Word is Jesus — a Person. Scripture is the text that testifies about Him. The two are not interchangeable.
  • The Word of God enters a person through the one God sends — not through Bible reading alone.

"There is no eternal life in this. The word is Jesus. This is called scripture."

"And ye have not his word abiding in you, for whom he has sent him ye believe not."

The Ways of God Must Be Introduced by a Man

  • God introduced Himself to Moses, to Israel, and to Daniel's generation as "the God of your fathers" — this language of fathers points to relational transmission, not legal transmission.
  • If you access someone else's relationship with God, you gain access to God's language; if you go only to God's law, you may be separated from His language.
  • There are things the Holy Spirit will not teach you — only experience can teach them.

"The ways of God must be introduced to you by a man, not by God. A mentor works with God by experience."

"The letter kills, but the spirit gives life. A lot of Christians want to be in the law. Jesus wants you to be in love."

Missing God's Protocol Has Divine Consequences

  • God spoke with Moses, commissioned him, and then waited on the road to kill him — because Moses had not circumcised his son, violating the Abrahamic covenant he was sent to fulfil.
  • God expected Moses to know this, because Moses had spiritual fathers who walked with God — ignorance of protocol is not an excuse before Yahweh.
  • The suffering many believers experience is not demonic attack — it is the consequence of not knowing God's ways.

"Do you see why you need to know God's ways? If God went after Moses, this thing should make you scared. It should make you serious about knowing the Lord God."

"You get touched because you don't know the ways of God. Are you better than Moses?"

God Responds to Relationship, Not Just Spiritual Activity

  • Cornelius was not born again, not baptized, and did not have the Holy Spirit — yet his actions caused an angel sent by God to visit him, while believers who fast and pray have never had such an encounter.
  • Pharaoh — a pagan king — heard from God through a dream and immediately sought someone who understood God's language to interpret it; many Spirit-filled believers cannot do the same.
  • God can speak to you, and you can still not know what He is saying — there are levels of relationship with God that some have not yet attained.

"How can a pagan king hear from God? You who is filled with the Holy Spirit, you can hear from God. It means you don't know the ways of the Spirit."

"I rather be in God's mercy than try to keep God's law. I rather be under grace than under my own righteousness."

True Spirituality Is Mediation Between God and Man

  • Any person who claims to be spiritual but is of no practical good to any human being is not spiritual — they are carnal.
  • To be spiritual is to be a mediator between God and man — not replacing Jesus Christ, but carrying a relational grace that makes God's voice accessible to others.
  • God changed His verdict on Nineveh — hyper-spiritual judgmentalism is not the posture of God, and it is not the posture of a truly spiritual person.

"Any person that claims to be spiritual but is not of any good to men is not spiritual is more carnal."

"To be spiritual is to be a mediator between God and man."

The Necessity of Spiritual Fathers and Mentors

  • Samuel did not find God by himself — he found God because of Eli, a man God had already rejected; yet it was still Eli who was the key to Samuel hearing God's voice.
  • Paul did not say "follow the Holy Spirit on your own" — he said, "Follow me as I follow Jesus." God was not foolish to give the church prophets, apostles, teachers, evangelists, and pastors.
  • Who is fathering you determines the depth of your relationship with God in terms of hearing Him — your spiritual mentor can either elevate you or bring you down.

"Find you somebody that knows God."

"By a prophet, Israel was delivered and by a prophet was Israel preserved. It did not say by prophecy. You need more than prophets, you need a prophet."

The Word Must Become Flesh to Be Understood

  • The Word of God must always take human form — unless it becomes flesh, you cannot fully understand it or receive it.
  • God gave His messengers life experience, trials, and encounters so that they speak not only what God is saying but from the knowledge of what He has done — that transmission brings people higher.
  • Pride has robbed the church of its relationship with God — everyone wants to hear God on their own terms and their own ways, which has dried up the church.

"The word must always become flesh, meaning that the word of God must always take human nature. Or else you can't understand it."

"Pride has robbed people of their relationship with God. Pride has robbed the church of their relationship with God. It has dried up the church."

Key Definitions

Scripture — The written text of the Bible; it testifies about Jesus but does not itself contain eternal life apart from the Person it points to.

The Word — Jesus Himself — a Person, not a text. As Jesus declared: "Search the scriptures for in them ye think ye have eternal life... and they are which testify of me."

Ministering to God — Attending to God's needs; not worship or prayer in themselves, but actively responding to what He requires and values.

Protocol — The established ways and expectations God holds concerning those in covenant with Him; ignorance of protocol carries divine consequences regardless of sincerity.

Spiritual Father / Mentor — A person who knows God through lived experience and whose relationship with God makes His language accessible to those under their covering; the transmitter of God's ways from one generation to the next.

Hyper-spiritual — A state of religiosity in which a person is so absorbed in spiritual performance and judgment that they are of no practical good to any human being — what appears spiritual is in fact carnal.

Key Takeaways

  • God elevates intimacy above religious law-keeping — faithfulness to God's commands is good, but it does not grant access to His confidence or His voice the way friendship does.
  • Scripture and the Word are not the same — treating the Bible as the final destination rather than the signpost to a Person is the error Jesus directly rebuked in the Pharisees.
  • The ways of God are transmitted through experienced mentors, not discovered independently — there are dimensions of knowing God that only relationship and spiritual fatherhood can unlock.
  • Missing God's protocol carries divine consequences — what many believers bind as demonic attack is in fact the result of not knowing God's ways, as Moses nearly learned fatally.
  • True spirituality produces practical benefit to human beings — a person who is spiritually active but of no good to others is not operating in the Spirit; they are operating in the flesh.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are you pursuing God through the law — through what you do and don't do — or through relationship? What evidence in your daily life supports your answer?
  2. Who is spiritually fathering you right now, and does that person carry the specific grace and experience you need for where God is taking you?
  3. Where in your life have you assumed the problem is demonic when it may actually be a consequence of not knowing God's ways or missing His protocol?
  4. If true spirituality means being of practical good to the people around you, how spiritual are you in practice — not in religious activity, but in what you produce in others' lives?
  5. What would change in your walk with God if you stopped searching the Scriptures as an end in themselves and began pursuing the Person the Scriptures testify about?
