New Kings: Navigating the Pitfalls of Your New Season
When God calls you into something new, spiritual wisdom is the only thing that will protect you from the deceptions Satan and men have set for your path.
Every generation has a time and a turn. God is raising up new kings — those called to carry His work further than the generation before them. But the transition from old oil to new oil is not without danger. Understanding the pitfalls of your assignment, embracing what God is doing now, and keeping heaven as your ultimate goal are the marks of those who will not miss their moment.
Teaching Overview
- God is transitioning His work from one generation to the next, and those called into the new must be wise enough to understand the spiritual conflicts that come with that transition.
- Deception occurs when all decisions are made in the flesh rather than through spiritual wisdom and discernment.
- The major pitfall in the body of Christ is loving old oil — refusing to embrace the new way God is moving with a new generation.
- Every generation looks at Jesus from a different angle, and must contend with challenges unique to their time.
- Your assignment is specific — you are sent to minister to those God has assigned to you, not to everyone — and keeping heaven as your goal is what aligns you with God's heart.
Key Distinctions
| Old Oil | New Oil | Old Generation (Moses) | New Generation (Joshua) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it represents | The way God worked through the previous generation | The way God is moving now, with a new people and new methods | Those who dealt with terrestrial, earthly conflicts | Those whose jurisdiction entered the heavens |
| Scope of authority | Established and proven within its time | Expanding — built from glory to glory | Fought against things within the earth | Could command heavenly bodies — stopping the sun |
| Primary challenge | Accepting that its time has an end | Embracing the new without abandoning the same Spirit | Endorse those who come after | Build on what the previous generation established |
| Risk if clung to | Blocking the new thing God is doing | Being deceived into rejecting your blessing | Spiritual conflict with the new kings | Missing the full scope of their calling |
| Defined by | What God did | What God is doing | Moses | Joshua |
| Secret Things | Revealed Things | Flesh Decisions | Spiritual Wisdom/Discernment | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What they are | Things that belong to God alone | Things God has disclosed to His people | Choices made outside of spiritual perception | Decisions guided by the Holy Spirit and understanding of pitfalls |
| Who they belong to | The Lord our God | Us and our children forever | The individual acting without divine guidance | The believer submitted to God's leading |
| Scriptural basis | Deuteronomy 29:29 | Deuteronomy 29:29 | The natural man | The spiritual man |
| Consequence | Cannot be acted upon by man | Must be received and acted upon generationally | Opens the door to deception | Protects from Satan's pitfalls and man-placed traps |
| Born Eunuch | Made Eunuch by Men | Made Eunuch for Kingdom of Heaven | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Origin | From the mother's womb — by birth | By force — castrated by men, not by choice | By personal consecration — a willful choice for the kingdom |
| Biblical example | — | Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah | Paul the Apostle |
| Nature of the condition | Natural — not chosen | Imposed — not chosen | Voluntary — chosen for God's sake |
| Marriage | Never married — not by choice | Never married — condition imposed | Chose not to marry — for kingdom purposes |
| Scriptural basis | Matthew 19:12 | Matthew 19:12 | Matthew 19:12 |
The Battle Between Old Kings and New Kings
- There is always a spiritual conflict when a generation that has been used by God must endorse the new generation coming after them, because the old often assumes their moment is being taken rather than fulfilled.
- Those who work with God must understand that they have their time, and then it is time to empower others — proving your legacy by endorsing new people who will walk in the same power and grace, and even greater.
- Every generation is called to build from glory to glory — the Moses generation dealt with terrestrial things, but the Joshua generation's jurisdiction entered into the heavens, commanding the sun to stop.
"You have your time and then it will be time for you to empower others for them to be for it to be their time."
Understanding Your Pitfalls
- When you are going on a spiritual journey, you must know the most dangerous parts — if you understand the pitfalls, you can protect yourself; if you know them, you can avoid them.
- Certain graces are given once in 50 or 100 years, and if you are called to partake in something and do not understand the pitfalls Satan and men have placed, you may find yourself in a place where God cannot use you — not because He did not call you, but because you did not understand the assignment.
- God found you — at no time did man ever seek out God except that God first sought out man.
"If you are not wise to understand the God that found you, you never found God — God found you."
Deception and Flesh Decisions
- Deception happens when all your decisions are made in the flesh — a person who operates without spiritual wisdom and discernment is vulnerable to Satan redirecting them away from what God intended to bless them with.
- When God calls a person, Satan will not release them without a fight — the enemy will engineer circumstances, dreams, and fears to cause you to reject the very thing God sent to bring you closer to Him.
- The Bible says to be sober — if God truly spoke to you, He is able to protect you; to believe a warlock is more powerful than the blood of Jesus Christ is itself the deception.
"Whenever God calls a person, do you think Satan will let go of you without a fight?"
It Is Your Time and Your Turn
- Understanding that it is your time and your turn opens your eyes and positions you to avoid deception.
- Revealed things — what God has disclosed — belong to you and to your children forever, and must be received and acted upon.
- Your calling is specific: you are sent to minister to those God has assigned to you, not to everyone — even Jesus was only sent to the Jews, yet His message went to all through the apostles.
"When you understand that it is your time and your turn, your eyes will open and you will avoid what is called deception."
Old Oil vs. New Oil
- The first problem of the church is loving old oil and not being ready for new oil — when God says "Behold, I do a new thing," it is the same Spirit, but the way He works will be new because He is dealing with a different generation.
- Being called into something new means you cannot do it the same way all things were done before — attempting to replicate the old while God is doing something new is a major pitfall in the body of Christ.
- In 1 Samuel 16, God rebuked Samuel for mourning over Saul and commanded him to fill his horn with new oil and go to Jesse — the new king had already been provided.
"The first problem of the church is they love old oil. They're not ready for the new oil."
Every Generation Sees Jesus From a Different Angle
- Jesus is the same yesterday and forever — He will never change — but the angle from which every generation looks at Jesus will be different from the angle the previous generation occupied.
- Every generation faces challenges and battles unique to their time — a prophet or man of God from a past generation, if brought into this present generation, would not be equipped to handle what this generation must navigate.
- Jesus did not come to save the body — He came to save the soul — and salvation is about the soul, which means God's mercy and the scope of His redemption reach further than previous generations were equipped to articulate.
"Jesus is the same yesterday and forever, meaning the Lord Jesus does not change. He will never change, but the angle that every generation will look at Jesus will be different."
The Three Types of Eunuchs
- According to Matthew 19:12, there are three kinds of eunuchs: those born so from their mother's womb, those made eunuchs by men, and those who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake.
- Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were made eunuchs by force — it was not their choice, which is why they never married.
- Paul was not born a eunuch, but he made himself one for the sake of the kingdom — and Jesus declared, "He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."
"He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."
Heaven as the Ultimate Goal
- Everything taught about navigating your season, avoiding pitfalls, and stepping into your calling is meaningless if your goal is not heaven.
- The purity of heart that God honors is a heart where everything is about heaven and getting people there.
- Winning God's heart is a tall order — the right posture is to strive to remain in the place God has ordained for you, chasing after Him and trusting His love.
"What else is there? Except to do it to take people to heaven."
Key Definitions
New Oil — The new way God is moving with a new generation; the same Spirit as before but operating through fresh methods, fresh people, and fresh authority suited for the challenges of the present age.
Old Oil — The way God worked through the previous generation; valuable in its time but not the vessel for what God is doing now; loving old oil to the exclusion of new oil is identified as the first problem of the church.
Deception — The condition that results when all of a person's decisions are made in the flesh, leaving them spiritually unprotected and vulnerable to Satan redirecting them away from their blessing and calling.
Eunuch — As defined by Matthew 19:12, one of three distinct categories: born so from the womb, made so by men against their will, or one who has willingly consecrated themselves in this way for the kingdom of heaven's sake.
Pitfalls — The specific dangers Satan and men have set along the path of your calling; spiritual traps that, if not understood in advance, can place you in a position where God cannot use you — not because He did not call you, but because you did not understand the assignment.
Revealed Things — As drawn from Deuteronomy 29:29, the things God has disclosed to His people, which belong to them and to their children forever, and which must be received and acted upon.
Key Takeaways
- God transitions His work from generation to generation, and the old must endorse the new. Spiritual conflict arises when a generation mistakes the end of its season for the loss of its legacy — but true legacy is proven by empowering those who come next.
- Deception enters through flesh-based decision-making. When a believer lacks spiritual wisdom and discernment, Satan can engineer circumstances to make them reject the very things God sent to bless and advance them.
- The body of Christ must embrace new oil, not cling to old oil. God is doing a new thing with a new generation, and refusing to receive it — insisting on old methods and old forms — is a primary pitfall for those called into this season.
- Every generation faces unique challenges that require a fresh angle on the unchanging Jesus. The gospel never changes, but the expression, application, and battles of each generation are distinct — and those called for this time must be equipped for this time.
- Your goal determines everything — and that goal must be heaven. All calling, assignment, and spiritual navigation is only meaningful when it is oriented toward souls reaching heaven and the believer making it there themselves.
Reflection Questions
- Are there areas in your life where you have been making decisions entirely in the flesh — without spiritual wisdom or discernment — and where has that left you vulnerable to deception?
- Is there a "new oil" — a new way God is moving, a new assignment, a new season — that you have been hesitant to embrace because you are more comfortable with what was?
- Have you truly accepted that it is your time and your turn? What fears, doubts, or voices from others are preventing you from stepping into what God has ordained for you?
- Who has God specifically assigned you to minister to, and are you spending your energy trying to reach everyone rather than being faithful to your specific assignment?
- When you honestly examine your motivations, is heaven the true goal of everything you are doing — or have other measures of success quietly replaced it?
Prayers and Declarations
Opening Prayer
"God, I am so grateful that you've shown yourself faithful continually continually that you don't fail, you're with me. I've walked alone for many where you take care of me. And now the things that you are doing, just when I look back and say, where do we go from here? Because if you would have told me that I've done everything that I have been able to do in this last 25, 35 years, I never would have believed it, but it's you. You get the glory for all the gifts, all the talent that they're calling in the mantle, the anointing, the open doors. You send me to people, you send me to countries. You don't fail to anoint and now you're taking me to the next level, I got the confirmation. You're going to bring the flame as it that I need. And part of the prophecy was that he would give me the keys. You have given me the keys to the king. Them give me the wisdom and the knowledge. How to unlock them."
"Father, do it for your son. Do it for your son. Do it for your son. Stretch your hands towards him. Father, do it for your son. Answer is prayer for his children, answer is prayer for his house, do a new thing for him."
