Take Care of You: Guarding Your Heart, Your Words, and Your Destiny
Your response to the enemy — not the enemy himself — determines your spiritual outcome.
The greatest threat to your destiny is not the devil's attacks — it is your response to them. What comes out of you, not what is spoken over you, is what defiles you and empowers darkness. This teaching cuts to the heart of spiritual warfare, prophetic ministry, and the power of the spoken word — revealing that the keys to victory have always been in your mouth, your heart, and your understanding of God's gifts.
Teaching Overview
- The enemy has no power over you except through what you speak and believe — your words and responses, not external attacks, determine your spiritual destiny.
- Guarding your heart is the foundation of spiritual victory, because the heart is the source of your words, and your words are the vehicle through which both God and the enemy operate.
- Understanding the gifts God has placed in your life — through the fivefold ministry, the Holy Spirit, and the Father — determines how much you can pull from God and how much God can do through you.
- Defilement comes from within, not from without — what enters you cannot defile you, but what comes out of you can.
- The distinction between reactive and proactive believers is the difference between a destiny assassinated and a destiny fulfilled.
Key Distinctions
| Dimension You Pull from God | Dimension God Does by Himself | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A response activated by faith, words, and understanding of God's gifts | A sovereign act God initiates without human engagement |
| Who initiates | The believer, by placing a demand on God through praise, prayer, and recognition of His gift | God alone, based on His sovereign will |
| Example | Blind Bartimaeus crying out until Jesus responded | Jesus finding the sick and healing them without their request |
| Role of the believer | Active — you must know how to pull from the gift of God among you | Passive — God moves regardless of the believer's knowledge |
| Gift of the Holy Spirit | Gift of the Father | Gift of the Lord Jesus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | The manifestation of spiritual gifts | The Lord Jesus Himself | The fivefold ministry |
| Scriptural basis | 1 Corinthians 12 | John 3:16 | Ephesians 4:8–11 |
| How it operates | Through the believer yielded to the Spirit | Through receiving Christ as Lord and Savior | Through the offices of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher |
| What rejecting it means | Quenching the Spirit's manifestation | Rejecting salvation | Rejecting the gift Jesus Himself gave to the Church |
| Prophet | Teacher | Evangelist | Pastor | Apostle | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Primary function | Points you to the direction you should go | Establishes believers in truth and doctrine | Wins souls outside the Church | Shepherds and prepares the people of God for Christ's coming | Ensures sound doctrine and correct theological alignment |
| Can preach? | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Center of ministry | Inquiry and direction from God | Building believers in the Word | Soul-winning | Shepherding | Doctrinal foundation |
| Who they serve | The whole Body — directing God's people | The Body — grounding them in truth | The lost | The saved | The whole Church — guarding doctrine |
| What Enters You | What Comes Out of You | |
|---|---|---|
| Effect on your spirit | Cannot defile you | Defiles you |
| Biblical basis | Mark 7:15 | Mark 7:15; Matthew 12:34–37 |
| The enemy's strategy | To speak lies into your hearing | To provoke a response that empowers him |
| Example | The devil speaking to Eve in the garden | Eve responding to and repeating the devil's words |
| Implication | Hearing the enemy's voice is not the danger | Responding to the enemy's voice is the danger |
| Prayer from Fear | Prayer from Confidence | |
|---|---|---|
| Source | The evil and fear that is in the heart | Faith in God's character and covenant |
| Example | "Father, protect me because I am scared" | "Father, protect me because You are my shield — nothing can touch me" |
| Sound the same? | Yes, on the surface | Yes, on the surface |
| Root | A response to perceived threat | A declaration of established truth |
| Outcome | Empowers fear and draws the enemy | Honours God and activates His protection |
| Reactive Believer | Proactive Believer | |
|---|---|---|
| Response to attack | Immediately responds, giving the enemy a vehicle | Does not respond, denying the enemy any ground |
| Result | Destiny potentially assassinated by their own words | Destiny preserved and advanced |
| Spiritual warfare posture | Engages with the devil using scripture as debate | Directs all response to God, not the enemy |
| Example | Going back and forth with the devil in spiritual warfare prayer | Speaking life from confidence in God's Word |
| External Defilement | Internal Defilement | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Sin or impurity that comes from outside the person | Defilement that originates in the heart and comes out through words and responses |
| Biblical teaching | "There is nothing from without a man that entering into him can defile him" — Mark 7:15 | "But the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man" — Mark 7:15 |
| The devil's access | Has no access through external means alone | Gains access when you respond to his words from a defiled heart |
| Solution | Not primarily the issue | Guard your heart; control what comes out of you |
The True Nature and Function of Prophetic Ministry
- A prophet's primary calling is to inquire of God on behalf of the people — to be the divine alternative to witches, warlocks, and palm readers.
- A mature prophet does not depend solely on the Holy Spirit to initiate a word; he has the ability to turn his face to heaven and pull from God on behalf of those who come to him.
- Each office of the fivefold ministry has a distinct function: the prophet gives direction, the teacher establishes doctrine, the evangelist wins souls, the pastor shepherds, and the apostle guards sound teaching.
"The prophet was the antidote of God to keep his people from going to wizards, warlocks, palm readers. That was the point of a prophet. God said, listen, I don't want you to be like the other nations. I will give you my prophets — if you want to know my mind, you go to them."
The Three Gifts and How to Pull from God
- The Gift of the Holy Spirit is the manifestation of spiritual gifts; the Gift of the Father is the Lord Jesus Himself; the Gift of the Lord Jesus is the fivefold ministry.
- When you despise your apostle, pastor, prophet, evangelist, or teacher, you reject the gift Jesus personally gave to His Church.
- There is a dimension you pull from God and a dimension God does by Himself — the Church largely suffers because it does not know how to pull from the gift of God in its midst.
"There is a dimension you pull from God and there is a dimension God does by himself. The church doesn't know how to pull from God because they don't know the gift of God."
Testing the Spirits and Recognising False Prophets
- The biblical test of a spirit is doctrinal: if a messenger does not confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, died, and rose again as the only way to heaven, that messenger is false.
- The devil will never point you to Jesus Christ — his goal is to make you self-sufficient, to trust in yourself, in good luck, or in your own goodness.
- A seducing spirit does not announce itself; it draws you in gradually by making you think you are on the right path while slowly leading you away from Christ.
"The devil's attempt is to take you away from Christ, not to bring you to him. The devil will not even preach a false Jesus because you might find the real Jesus."
Guarding Your Heart as the Foundation of Destiny
- The well of the prophetic is in the heart — anyone who mismanages their heart mismanages their destiny.
- Most believers try to fix external problems without recognising that the root of their issues is internal, originating in an unguarded heart.
- Satan was present in the Garden of Eden and God never removed him, because the devil is not an issue unless you respond to what he says.
"Anyone who mismanages their heart, mismanages their destiny. Most people want to fix what is external but they don't realize their problem is internal."
How the Devil Operates — and the Limits of His Power
- The devil cannot read minds; he can only know God's will and your spiritual state by observing what you say and what you do.
- The devil cannot spread beyond the place where he is confined unless a human being empowers him through their words and responses.
- Fasting and prayer can keep the attacks of the enemy away, but they do not keep his voice away — the responsibility to shut your ears to his voice is yours.
"The devil can only spread as a cancer if you empower him by your words. The devil never moved from the tree until Eve entertained what he said and began to use the words that he said."
What Defiles You — Mark 7:15
- Nothing that enters a person from outside can defile them; defilement only occurs when something wrong comes out of them.
- The devil dwells only in defiled places — when you respond to his lie and allow it to come out of your mouth, you create a vehicle for him to operate through.
- Sin did not enter the world through a demonic attack but through Eve's response to what she heard — she watered the seed the devil planted by repeating and acting on his words.
"When the devil says a lie to you, the lie does not affect you, until you respond to it. Because the devil only dwells in the defiled places. So if you become defiled, you become a vehicle to transport the lie — and the devil only works through lies."
Your Words Determine What Heaven and Hell Can Do
- Gabriel told Daniel, "I have come because of your words" — not because of his prayer alone, but because of the specific words he spoke within his prayer.
- When Jesus declared, "Man shall not live by bread alone," He was not answering the devil with scripture — He was affirming His own divine identity: that the true bread within Him could not die.
- Every time the devil attacks, he is testing your flesh, not your spirit — your spirit has never been sick, hungry, homeless, or jobless; he has no access there.
"I have come because of your words. He did not say I have come because of your prayer. He said, I have come because of your words."
Reactive Believers and the Assassination of Destiny
- Many believers have assassinated their destiny not because of what was spoken to them, but because of how they responded to it.
- The devil's goal is to make you bitter so that the wrong words come out of you — bitterness gives him exactly the vehicle he needs.
- When you refuse to respond to the enemy's provocations, he eventually runs out of ammunition, because he can never force a reaction.
"Many believers have assassinated their destiny, because of their response, not because of what was spoken to you."
The Heart, the Mouth, and the Treasure Within — Matthew 12:34–37
- Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks — the home you want, the career you want, the healing you want, is first a matter of what is in your heart.
- Prayer from fear and prayer from confidence may sound identical on the surface, but they come from entirely different places and produce entirely different outcomes.
- The Bible does not say you become what you pray — it says you become what you think; prayer that originates from fear reinforces the enemy's work rather than God's.
"Father, protect me because I am scared — that is not the same as — Father, protect me because you are my shield. Nothing can touch me. Those two prayer points sound the same, but they are not the same. They didn't come from the same place."
Witchcraft, Envy, and the Danger of Defilement
- Witchcraft begins with envy — the moment blessing on another person causes you to compare and covet rather than believe, the door to witchcraft opens.
- Witchcraft at its core is manipulation: the altering of somebody's mind, causing them to forget the goodness of God and the fruit of their walk with Him.
- The moment you become defiled through envy, bitterness, or wrong words, you become unfit for God's use and fit for the enemy's.
"Witchcraft is manipulation, the ability to manipulate. That's altering of somebody's mind. When you could not sleep without the word of God — how you wanted to be active in the house of God — how you saw demons being cast out — all of a sudden this is not God. That is the evidence of witchcraft."
Key Definitions
Prophetic Ministry — The God-ordained office through which believers can inquire of the Lord and receive His mind and direction, serving as His divine alternative to occult sources of knowledge.
Seducing Spirit — A spirit that does not announce itself but gradually draws a person in by making them believe they are on the right path, while slowly pulling them toward doctrines of devils.
Doctrine of Devils — Any teaching that contradicts or causes believers to despise what Jesus established — including speaking against the fivefold ministry gifts He gave to the Church.
Defilement — Not what enters a person from outside, but what comes out of them in response — the product of an unguarded heart that has received and responded to the enemy's words.
Witchcraft — The manipulation and altering of a person's mind, rooted in envy, that causes them to forget the goodness of God and turn against His gifts and His people.
Reactive Believer — A believer who responds immediately to every provocation of the enemy, thereby giving the devil a vehicle through their words to advance against their own destiny.
Key Takeaways
- Your words and responses — not the devil's attacks — determine your destiny. The enemy can only operate through what you empower him with; your response is the key variable.
- Guarding your heart is the most important spiritual discipline you have. The heart governs the mouth, the mouth governs your reality, and a mismanaged heart mismanages your entire destiny.
- Understanding and honouring God's gifts in your life unlocks dimensions of God you cannot access alone. You can only pull from what you recognise, value, and direct your faith toward.
- Defilement is always from within, never from without. What is spoken at you cannot hurt you; only what comes out of you can defile you and give the enemy room.
- Proactive believers, not reactive ones, walk in lasting victory. Refusing to respond to the enemy's provocations is not passivity — it is the highest form of spiritual warfare.
Reflection Questions
- When you face a bad report — from a doctor, a situation, or a person — what is the first thing that comes out of your mouth? Does your response give God a vehicle or give the enemy one?
- Are there areas of your life where envy of another person's blessing has begun to turn into bitterness or complaint? What would it look like to let that become fuel for faith instead?
- Do you truly know how to pull from the gift of God in your life — your pastor, prophet, or teacher — or have you been waiting for God to move sovereignly without placing a demand on what He has already given you?
- When you examine your prayers, are they coming from confidence in who God is, or are they coming from fear of what the enemy might do? What does that reveal about what is in your heart?
- Is there a word the enemy has spoken to you — through a person, a circumstance, or a thought — that you have been watering and responding to? What step can you take this week to stop giving it life?
Prayers and Declarations
Opening Prayer
"Father, we thank you in the name of Jesus. We thank you for your goodness, we thank you for your kindness, we thank you that you're God eternal who does not change. We thank you for your love and your mercy. We thank you that you sanctify us and purify us. We thank you that you restore our souls. Father today do a new thing in our lives, reveal yourself to us. Where we may our tears — may we find rest for our souls in You as Your word says. Father we thank you for all those who are gathered online and those who are presently here. We thank you that it is by Your mercy we have all come together. Holy Spirit, this is Your time not our time. Fill Your work in us all Lord. Show us Your mercy in Jesus' name."
