The Doctrine of Devils: Recognizing Demonic Deception in the Church
The Doctrine Of Devils · Part 1 of 2
Believers who do not understand the doctrines of demons may already be under demonic seduction without knowing it.
The spiritual world operates according to protocols and functions that every believer must understand. Without this understanding, demonic doctrines can infiltrate the church, seducing believers away from true faith through a form of godliness that carries no power. The doctrine of demons does not always look like obvious evil — it often looks like religion.
Teaching Overview
- Believers must understand the protocols and functions of the spiritual world to protect their blessings and walk in spiritual authority.
- The church is under assault from seducing spirits that lead people away from true faith into demonic doctrines — often without their awareness.
- The doctrine of demons operates through a form of godliness that denies the power of God, replacing grace with works and performance.
- Righteousness, holiness, and forgiveness are gifts received through Christ — not achievements earned through religious effort.
- Demonic doctrine is actively destroying lives, relationships, and churches by replacing the gospel of grace with condemnation, division, and religious externalism.
Key Distinctions
| Faith | Religion | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Spiritual substance — "the evidence of things not seen" | An external system of forms, practices, and appearances |
| Where it operates | In the spirit — invisible realities | In the flesh — visible performances |
| Who it produces | Spiritual people walking in the power of God | People with a form of godliness who deny the power |
| What it requires | Receiving grace through belief | Performing works to earn God's favour |
| What happens when left | Departure from the faith opens one to seducing spirits | Religious externalism deepens without awareness of deception |
| Seducing Spirits | Demons | |
|---|---|---|
| What they are | Spirits cast out of people during deliverance | Fallen angels operating in the spiritual realm |
| How they operate | From outside — making people pay attention to demonic doctrines | Bound and fought by angels in the heavenly realm |
| Whether they possess | No — they influence without indwelling | They do not need to possess a body |
| Why they are dangerous | Because they cannot be detected or cast out in a deliverance session | Because they block spiritual blessings in the heavenly realm |
| Effect on the believer | The seduced person will not manifest in a Holy Ghost meeting — they feel chills and call it the Holy Spirit | They intercept blessings before they reach the natural realm |
| Form of Godliness | Power of God | |
|---|---|---|
| What it looks like | Reads Scripture, shouts Jesus, performs religious acts | Demonstration of the Spirit — healing, deliverance, signs |
| What it produces | Religion without transformation | Faith grounded in spiritual power |
| Where faith is placed | In Scripture recitation and religious performance | In the manifest power of God |
| Who defines it | Demonic doctrine masquerading as Christianity | The Holy Spirit operating through surrendered vessels |
| Grace | Works | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | God's unconditional love and forgiveness — already given through Christ | Human effort to earn or maintain God's favour |
| How it operates | Received by belief — "whosoever shall believe on His name" | Performed through fasting, prayer, and religious effort as a prerequisite |
| Who qualifies | Anyone who comes to Him | Only those who meet religious conditions — which no one can fully meet |
| What it produces | Transformation through encounter with God's goodness | Guilt, condemnation, and bondage |
| Righteousness as Gift | Righteousness as Achievement | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The gift of God's own righteousness imparted to the believer | A religious standard reached through personal moral effort |
| Who gives it | God alone — "there is none that is holy except God" | The believer's own discipline and performance |
| How it is received | "Be holy for I am holy" — a prophetic declaration, not a command to perform | Through sustained holiness in outward behaviour |
| What happens when missed | The believer lives in condemnation, unable to receive what is freely given | The believer performs endlessly without transformation |
| Sinner Identity | Believer Identity | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The old nature before Christ | The new creation in Christ Jesus |
| What the Bible says | "Those who continue in sin do not know Him" | "To as many as believed on His name, gave He power to become" |
| What it produces when held | False declaration — living beneath one's identity in Christ | Freedom to receive the power to become |
| What the fall of a righteous man means | That the just man can fall — seven times | That the just man rises again every time |
| Prodigal Son | Faithful Son | |
|---|---|---|
| What he did | Left the father's house, fell into sin, came to himself | Stayed home, served faithfully, tried to earn his inheritance |
| What he discovered | The father's mercy and goodness — "even the servants live better than me" | That he was trying to earn what already belonged to him |
| What the father gave him | The seal — authority to sign on the father's behalf | An inheritance he had access to but could not receive because he did not know the father's heart |
| What his state revealed | He was dead and is now alive — he was lost and now found | He was alive in body but spiritually dead — never truly knowing the father |
| What this teaches | Encountering God's goodness is what produces true transformation | Religious performance without relationship leaves a person spiritually empty |
The Spiritual World Operates by Protocols
- Every blessing God releases has an address in the spiritual realm — and that address can be intercepted.
- Daniel prayed and a demon blocked the blessing in the air — the answer could not come through until the hindrance was removed.
- Believers who are only conscious of the physical world are at a disadvantage against a spiritual enemy that operates entirely in the spiritual realm.
"If you don't know the workings of the spirit, your blessing can be stolen from you."
What the Spirit Speaks Expressly
- The Holy Spirit is speaking clearly in this season — not in dark speeches, but openly, so that anyone with an ear can hear.
- The book of Revelation confirms: "Let him that has an ear" — what God has spoken does not require a believer to hear it; it only requires an ear.
- The clear speech of the Spirit signals that a warning has been issued for the entire earth concerning the departure from the faith.
"When the Spirit speaks clearly, meaning God has moved the veil, everyone will hear it."
The Departure from the Faith
- In the last times, some shall depart from the faith — not from Christianity, but from spiritual faith itself.
- The departure precedes demonic seduction — people leave the atmosphere of faith first, and then seducing spirits begin to minister to them.
- The Galatians are the biblical case study: they began in the Spirit and were seduced into the flesh — "Who has bewitched you?" is Paul's diagnosis of a people under spiritual seduction.
"Starting in the spirit, how did you end up in the flesh? There was a seduction."
Seducing Spirits vs. Demons: A Critical Distinction
- A seducing spirit is not inside a person — it operates externally, directing the person's attention toward doctrines of demons without indwelling them.
- Because the seducing spirit is not inside the person, deliverance sessions will not expose it — the person will not manifest and may even feel the Holy Spirit's presence.
- Demons (fallen angels) are bound and fought by angels in the heavenly realm; they do not need to possess a human body because doing so would actually limit them.
"A seducing spirit is not in you. It's making you land something. Why is it making you enter into a doctrine? It means you cannot review it because it's not in you."
The Atmosphere of Doctrinal Infection
- The doctrine of God does not fall through teaching or thinking alone — it falls because of an atmosphere, like rain falling on tender grass.
- When the atmosphere changes, even children are affected — not because they are choosing rebellion, but because the spiritual climate has shifted.
- Seducing spirits do not give people demonic doctrine directly — they point people toward what is already in the atmosphere once those people have stepped outside the covering of faith.
"The doctrine of God is not taught. The doctrine of God is not thought. The doctrine of God falls because of an atmosphere."
Form of Godliness Without Power
- A form of godliness carries all the external markers of faith — Scripture, worship, the name of Jesus — but it denies the manifest power of God.
- Paul's standard in 1 Corinthians 2 is unambiguous: faith must rest in the demonstration of the Spirit and power, not in words or religious performance.
- Job had no Bible and no written Scripture, yet he walked in faith and demonstrated the power of God — because an atmosphere carried the doctrine of God to him.
"If there is no power then it's not God."
Opposing Prosperity Is a Doctrine of Demons
- Psalm 23 declares the Lord as Shepherd and states "I shall not want" — this covers both needs and wants, establishing God's provision as His covenant will.
- Jesus taught His disciples to pray for provision before He taught them to pray for forgiveness — "give us this day our daily bread" precedes "forgive us our debts."
- To preach that struggle makes one closer to God contradicts the testimony of the righteous man who has never been forsaken.
"If you oppose prosperity, a doctrine of demons is in you. Anyone that fights prosperity, that the people of God ought not to prosper, the doctrine of devil is in you."
Grace Cannot Be Earned or Credited to Human Merit
- The doctrine of demons produces a culture in which a believer must win God's love — but God's love is unconditional by definition.
- When conditions are attached to God's love, it ceases to be God's love and becomes a form of godliness — a counterfeit.
- God does not speak to, heal through, or use a person because of their faithfulness, holiness, or dedication — He acts because He has chosen and loves.
"A doctrine of devils puts a culture in you that you need to win God's love. Yet God has unconditional love, meaning there is no conditions."
Righteousness and Holiness Are Gifts Received
- "Be holy for I am holy" is not a command to perform — it is a prophetic declaration, the same creative speech as "let there be light."
- There is none holy except God — therefore holiness cannot be produced by human effort; it can only be received as a gift.
- The righteous man falls seven times and rises again — the Bible does not say the just man cannot fall; it says he rises.
"Righteousness is given. Be holy for I am holy. It's not saying do it, it is saying receive it. It is a prophetic declaration because there is none that is holy except God."
Forgiveness Is Already Given — Not Earned Through Repentance
- The goodness of God leads men to repentance — not the threat of judgment or the requirement to repent before receiving.
- Forgiveness was accomplished at the cross before any individual knew how to repent or could escape sin.
- When someone comes under conviction of sin, the believer's assignment is to declare their forgiveness — not to send them away to fast, pray, and pay their way in.
"We don't get cleansed because we say we get cleansed because Jesus died on our behalf. He died for our sins before we even knew how to repent."
The Sinner's Prayer and False Identity
- There is no such thing as the sinner's prayer in Scripture — the Bible says "whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" and "if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you receive salvation."
- Declaring "I am a sinner" before God after coming to Christ is a false declaration — the Bible says those who continue in sin do not know Him, not that believers are sinners.
- When a person comes to Christ, they come to receive power to become — not to rehearse their sinfulness.
"When you come to Him, you are no longer a sinner. You are coming so that He may give you the power to become."
The Prodigal Son and the Discovery of the Father's Goodness
- The prodigal son was promoted above the faithful son not because of his moral record but because he discovered the father's mercy and recognized his own need.
- The faithful son was trying to earn an inheritance that already belonged to him — and because he did not know the father's heart, he could not receive what was his.
- The father's declaration — "your brother was dead and is now alive, was lost and is now found" — reveals that the faithful son, for all his service, was also spiritually dead without knowing it.
"The prodigal son was promoted over the faithful son because the prodigal son discovered the father's mercy. His richness in mercy."
Demonic Doctrine Is Destroying the Church and Society
- Gossip, jealousy, and fighting in the church are symptoms of demonic doctrine operating among people who believe they are walking with God.
- Matthew 24:10 confirms that in the last days many will fall away, betray one another, and hate one another — this is not demonic possession but the fruit of demonic doctrine.
- Division by political identity, the erasure of honor for parents and authority, and the collapse of respect for the dead are all manifestations of a culture shaped by doctrines of demons.
"Documents of devils is murdering people. A lot of people will miss heaven and they will not understand how they miss heaven."
Key Definitions
Doctrine of Demons — Teaching and belief systems that carry the appearance of godliness but deny the power of God, leading people away from true faith through lies about works, condemnation, grace, and identity — often without the individual's awareness.
Seducing Spirit — A spirit that operates externally, directing a person's attention and affection toward demonic doctrines without indwelling them; because it does not reside within the person, it cannot be exposed or cast out in a deliverance session.
Demon (Fallen Angel) — A fallen angelic being that operates in the heavenly realm, is bound and fought by angels, and does not require human possession to carry out its work; these are distinct from the spirits cast out in deliverance ministry.
Form of Godliness — An external religious expression — Scripture reading, worship, use of Jesus' name — that carries none of the manifest power of God and is therefore not of God, regardless of how it appears on the surface.
Faith — Spiritual substance — "the evidence of things not seen" — the atmosphere in which the doctrine of God falls like rain; distinct from Christianity as a religion, it is the living, spiritual reality from which a believer can depart.
Righteousness (as Gift) — The impartation of God's own righteousness to the believer — not a moral achievement but a received gift, declared prophetically by God in "Be holy for I am holy," just as light was declared into existence at creation.
Key Takeaways
- Understanding the spiritual world is not optional — it is an obligation. Blessings operate according to spiritual protocols, and ignorance of those protocols leaves believers exposed to theft, delay, and deception.
- Seducing spirits operate outside the person, making them invisible to standard discernment and deliverance. A person under a seducing spirit will not manifest in a Holy Ghost meeting — making this form of deception far more dangerous than outright demonic possession.
- The doctrine of demons is distinguished not by what it denies openly, but by what it replaces quietly. It replaces grace with works, received righteousness with earned holiness, and God's goodness with religious guilt — all while looking like Christianity.
- Righteousness, holiness, and forgiveness are received — never earned. The moment a believer attempts to perform their way into God's favour, they have entered the doctrine of demons, regardless of how sincere their effort.
- The goodness of God — not the threat of condemnation — is what leads men to repentance. Preaching that withholds grace until repentance is performed reverses the order of the gospel and puts chains on those who need to be set free.
Reflection Questions
- Are there any beliefs you hold about how God sees you — or how you must approach Him — that are based on performance rather than the grace already given through Christ?
- In what areas of your life are you still trying to earn what God has already freely given — His love, His forgiveness, His righteousness?
- When someone comes to you burdened by sin and guilt, what is your instinct — to point them toward what they must do, or to declare the forgiveness that is already theirs in Christ? What does your answer reveal about what doctrine you are operating from?
- How has the atmosphere around you — cultural, political, social, or even congregational — shaped your beliefs in ways you have not examined against Scripture and the power of God?
- The faithful son served faithfully yet did not know the father's heart. Is it possible to be religiously consistent but spiritually disconnected from who God actually is? Where might that be true in your own walk?
