The Well of Oil Pt. 3: Three Sources of Anointing and the Cost of Spiritual Power
The Well Of Oil · Part 3 of 3
The authentic anointing of God is freely available through Jesus — but every source of oil carries a price, and the path you choose determines what you pay.
There are three sources of spiritual anointing: directly from God, through God's servants, and through spiritual beings. Understanding the distinction between these sources — and the cost each demands — is essential for every believer who desires to walk in genuine spiritual power. The anointing cannot be corrupted, only misused, and the path to pure oil begins with falling in love with Jesus.
Teaching Overview
- The Spirit of God within and the Spirit of God upon are two entirely different experiences — one produces new birth, the other produces anointing for ministry.
- There are three sources of the well of oil: directly from God, from God's servant, and from spiritual beings — and each carries a distinct cost.
- Gifts, anointing, and the Presence of God are not the same thing — the gift version specialises in one area, while the Presence operates across all areas.
- Demonic anointing is genuine but always demands a cost — ultimately the soul — making it a covenant only Jesus can break.
- The authentic path to pure oil is falling in love with Jesus and faithfully serving someone who carries God.
Key Distinctions
| Spirit of God Within | Spirit of God Upon | Anointing | Gifts | Presence of God | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | The Holy Spirit residing inside the believer | The Holy Spirit coming upon a person for external ministry | The deposit of divine oil for spiritual power and expression | God-given spiritual abilities specialised for a particular function | God Himself manifesting — not a gift or office but His own Person |
| When it occurs | At the moment of new birth / salvation | At God's appointment for ministry or service | When the Spirit of the Lord comes upon | Given by God's sovereign will | Moves in and through those entrusted with His Presence |
| Primary purpose | To make the believer alive in Christ | To equip the believer to be a witness and do ministry | To express divine virtues externally | To serve the Body in a specific, specialised area | To create the supernatural atmosphere in which miracles, deliverance, and revelation operate |
| Biblical examples | Disciples receiving the Holy Spirit when Jesus breathed on them | Disciples at Pentecost; Samson; John the Baptist; Jesus at Jordan | Jesus at His baptism; Samson; John the Baptist | Gift of prophecy; working of miracles | The atmosphere that generates miracles beyond the gift of working of miracles |
| Can exist without the other? | Yes — one can have the Spirit within without the Spirit upon | Yes — the Spirit can come upon without permanent indwelling | Yes — one can be anointed without the Spirit within | Yes — gifts can operate without the broader Presence of God | Distinct from gifts; cannot be manufactured by human effort |
| Common confusion | Many Christians mix the two experiences | Often mistaken for the same as being born again | Often confused with the gifts or with salvation | Often mistaken for the anointing or the Presence of God | Often collapsed into the gift of miracles or the anointing |
| Chosen Service | Destined Service | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A person who nominates themselves or chooses to serve God out of passion or desire | A person appointed by God before birth for a specific divine work |
| Source of calling | Human will, passion, or decision | Divine predestination — not the person's choice |
| Degree of choice | The individual chose it | No choice — destiny compelled it |
| Biblical example | Those passionate about God who chose to minister | Judas, destined to play his part; Prophet Lovy — "I never chose to serve Jesus. I was destined to serve Jesus." |
| What they carry | God honours genuine consecration | A deposit within them meant to be shared, not kept |
| God's Anointing | Demonic Anointing | |
|---|---|---|
| Source | God Himself — pure, predestined oil | Fallen spiritual beings — corrupted in direction, not in nature |
| Nature of the oil | Genuine anointing | Genuine anointing — oil is oil, it cannot be corrupted |
| Cost | Your life consecrated to God; sacrificial service | Your soul — a covenant only Jesus can break |
| Result | Glory to God; transformation from glory to glory | Temporary earthly power; soul-bondage; torment |
| Can it be broken? | Not applicable — it is given freely through Christ | Only through Jesus — you cannot walk away on your own |
| Curseless Curses | Curses With Cause | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A declared curse with no spiritual legal ground to stand on | A curse empowered by genuine disobedience or broken covenant with God |
| Can it stand? | No — curses without a cause cannot stand | Yes — it has legal ground because sin or disobedience created an opening |
| Biblical basis | Proverbs 26:2 — "The curse causeless shall not come" | Gabriel cursing Zechariah with muteness because he doubted |
| Solution | The curse has no power and will not land | Discovering and addressing the root cause — repentance alone without identifying the cause accomplishes nothing |
The Two Experiences of the Holy Spirit
- The Spirit of God within is the experience of new birth — it is impossible to declare Jesus as Lord and Savior without the Holy Spirit within.
- The Spirit of God upon is an entirely separate experience — this is where anointing is found, as seen in Samson, John the Baptist, and the Lord Jesus Himself.
- Before His ascension, Jesus gave the disciples two distinct encounters: He breathed on them and said "Receive the Holy Spirit" (new birth), then commanded them to wait until the Spirit came upon them for ministry.
"Anyone that has the Spirit upon, usually there will be anointed but anyone who has the Spirit within will not be anointed."
"Until that happens, you are not qualified to be my witness. When this happens, you shall be my witnesses."
Gifts, Anointing, and the Presence of God
- Being gifted is different from being anointed, and being anointed is different from the Spirit of God being upon you — these are not the same experience.
- There is no gift of deliverance; the spirit of prophecy is not a gift; the supernatural atmosphere that creates miracles is not a gift — it is the Presence of God Himself.
- The gift version of any spiritual function will always specialise in one area; the Presence of God operates across all areas simultaneously.
"To be gifted is different from being anointed. To be anointed is different from the spirit of God being upon you."
"The gift version will always specialise in one area, not on all areas."
Destined Service and the Mandate of God
- There are men destined for God's work — not those who nominated themselves or chose ministry out of passion, but those for whom it was destiny from birth.
- Those who are destined carry something within them that was not supposed to remain with them — it was meant to be shared, either when God directs or when the man of God is compelled by love for the people.
- When God puts oil within a person, the release of that oil is moved not merely by what is given, but by whether the heart of the man is moved.
"I never chose to serve Jesus. I was destined to serve Jesus. There's a big difference."
"When you are born with the mandate of God, you have already sacrificed your whole life for him."
The Third Source: Spiritual Beings and Angelic Encounters
- The third source of the well of oil involves spiritual beings — both angels and demonic entities have the capacity to transfer something of what they carry.
- Anyone who has a genuine encounter with an angel cannot remain the same — angels carry something within them, by God's permission, that transposes onto the person.
- Angels who carry the ability to prophesy also carry the ability to deliver what they declare — this is why Gabriel was personally offended when Zechariah doubted his words.
"Anyone who has a genuine encounter with an angel cannot be the same."
"Anybody that has the ability to prophesy, to tell you what is to come, has the ability to deliver what is going to come."
The Anointing Cannot Be Corrupted — Only Misused
- All authority and power comes from above — this means even the oil carried by demonic entities originates from God, making there no such thing as inherently bad oil.
- The anointing of Satan is recognised in Scripture as genuine — he is still called the anointed Cherub, because he retains a deposit of oil.
- The oil itself cannot be corrupted; what differs is the cost demanded by the source from which it is received.
"There is no such thing as bad oil. Oil is oil. But oil has a cost."
"The anointing cannot be corrupted, but the anointing can be misused."
The Cost of Demonic Anointing and the Trap of Witchcraft
- Whenever someone receives oil from a demonic source, the cost is the soul — there is nothing more precious on earth, and that is precisely what is demanded.
- Those who work in witchcraft have already traded something; they must continually sacrifice others because the moment they cannot, they themselves become the sacrifice.
- A demonic covenant cannot be voluntarily exited — those who attempt to leave are tormented or driven to insanity, because only Jesus has the authority to break that covenant.
"The demon will give you the oil at the cost of your soul."
"When you encounter this level of spirits, it is only God that can intervene to save you."
Curses: Their Origin, Cause, and Limits
- The first to pronounce a curse in Scripture was God Himself — God cursed Adam, Eve, and the serpent; the devil has no inherent power to curse.
- Curses without a cause cannot stand — they require legal ground, which is created by disobedience or broken alignment with God.
- Declaring generic generational curse-breaking without identifying the root cause accomplishes nothing — the cause must be discovered and addressed.
"The devil has no power to actually curse. It's a sham."
"Unless you discover the reason and you can turn it around, you're not doing anything."
The Authentic Path to Pure Oil
- The genuine ways to receive the authentic power of God have already been paid for by Jesus — they do not require soul-covenants or demonic trade.
- The easiest and purest path to the well of oil is falling in love with Jesus.
- Finding someone who genuinely carries God and serving them faithfully has been the pattern of God from the beginning, and it remains the appointed path.
"The easiest way to get the well of oil, that is authentic pure, fall in love with Jesus."
"Find somebody that carries God. Serve them faithfully and you will get it. It has been the way of God from the beginning."
Key Definitions
The Well of Oil — The reservoir of spiritual anointing and divine power that can be received from three sources: directly from God, through God's servant, or through spiritual beings.
Spirit of God Within — The Holy Spirit residing inside a person at the moment of salvation; the source of new birth, without which no one can genuinely declare Jesus as Lord.
Spirit of God Upon — A distinct second experience in which the Holy Spirit comes upon a person to equip them for external ministry and expression of divine power; the source of anointing.
Anointing — The deposit of divine oil upon a person when the Spirit of the Lord comes upon them; distinct from the gifts and from the indwelling Spirit, it enables external expression of God's virtues and power.
Destined Service — A calling not chosen by the individual but appointed by God before birth; the person had no choice — their entire life was already consecrated to the mandate.
Curses Without a Cause — Declared curses that have no legal spiritual ground and therefore cannot stand, as established in Proverbs 26:2; a curse requires a cause — disobedience or broken alignment with God — in order to take effect.
Key Takeaways
- The Spirit within and the Spirit upon are two entirely different experiences — confusing them leads to misunderstanding both salvation and ministry, and disqualifies a person from accurately interpreting those who carry the Spirit upon them.
- Every source of oil carries a cost — God's anointing costs your life in consecrated service, while demonic anointing costs your soul in an unbreakable covenant, making the source you pursue the most consequential spiritual decision you will make.
- The anointing cannot be corrupted — only misused — recognising this prevents both the fear that demonic counterfeit can taint God's power and the deception that demonic oil is a shortcut worth taking.
- Curses require a cause to stand — spiritual warfare that ignores the root cause of a curse accomplishes nothing; genuine breakthrough requires identifying and addressing the ground that gave the curse legal standing.
- The authentic path to pure oil is relationship and faithful service — falling in love with Jesus and serving someone who carries God is not a secondary option; it is the appointed way from the beginning.
Reflection Questions
- Have you been operating primarily from the Spirit within (salvation) while assuming you also carry the Spirit upon (anointing for ministry) — and what would it mean for how you serve if these are genuinely two different experiences?
- Who in your life genuinely carries God — and are you serving them faithfully, or are you seeking spiritual power through shortcuts that bypass that relationship?
- Where in your life are you pursuing spiritual results, influence, or power — and have you examined what cost you are willing to pay and from which source you are drawing?
- Are there areas of your life where you have been declaring curses broken without identifying the root cause? What specific disobedience or misalignment might be giving those situations their legal ground?
- What would it look like for you to practically fall in love with Jesus as the foundation of your spiritual life — not just serve Him, but genuinely love Him — and what is currently standing in the way of that?
Prayers and Declarations
"Just lift your hands and thank God and receive."
"All right, so with that, we're gonna pray. We acknowledge our spiritual father, our prophet. We thank you, Father in the name of Jesus. We honor you this day. We honor you in this moment to space in this time, Father. We thank you, Father God, for the remnant, Lord God, for the oil, the wealth of oil, Lord God, that is being endowed on each and every last one of us, God. That will cause that's Lord God to transfigure from glory to glory in you. We thank you, Lord God, for the predestined glory, Lord God, for the predestined oil that you placed on each and every that's one of our lives, no regard. That which will cause us to be the men and women of God that you call in us to be, Father, we thank you, Lord God. We thank you for the well of oil. Thank you, Father. That which is the well of oil. Thank you. That which is the measure of grace given unto you. Father, call us to seek that which is a relationship with you. That we may not only be children of God but sons of God. We receive the well of oil. We thank you, Father. We ask that you touch the hearts and the minds of your people, deliver them, heal them, set them free, wherever they are. We thank you for breakthroughs, deliverance, healings, minds being changed. In the mighty name of Jesus, in the mighty name of Jesus."
