Walking in Authority: Understanding Your Position in Spiritual Conflict

Walking in Authority: Understanding Your Position in Spiritual Conflict

Teaching by Prophet Lovy L. Elias · Watch on YouTube · 30 June 2022

Authority in spiritual conflict is not assumed — it is delegated, defined by your assignment, and enforced only by the power God has entrusted to you.

From the day you were born on earth, you entered into a battle. You entered into a spiritual conflict. Whether you like it or not, it is what it is. But being born into conflict is not the same as knowing how to fight it. Authority in spiritual conflict is delegated by God and must be understood through your assigned position and the power He has given you. Without knowing what God has entrusted to you, you cannot exercise proper authority, discern your spiritual boundaries, or effectively minister to others.

Teaching Overview

  1. Your spiritual life is a product of what you know about God — not how you pray — because prayer is shaped by knowledge.
  2. Authority and power are inseparable: you cannot have strong authority without the power to enforce it.
  3. The first level of spiritual power given to every believer is personal victory — treading on what once dominated your life.
  4. Signs follow belief, but they operate in the realm of power, not yet the realm of authority.
  5. Spiritual conflict escalates in levels: from creeping things, to casting out devils, to resisting the world system — and each level requires a different kind of armor.

The Foundation: Knowledge Over Prayer

  • Your spiritual life is a product of what you know about God, not how much you pray.
  • Prayer is a product of knowledge — if you do not know, you cannot pray correctly or with faith.
  • Faith itself is not the memorization of Scripture; it is the result of knowing the mind of God.

"Your spiritual life is a product of what you know about God, not about how you pray."

"The Bible says that what is revealed is for man and what is hidden is for God."

Understanding Your Position Before God

  • What makes you spiritually strong and powerful is an understanding of where God has placed you.
  • You cannot claim to be greater than someone who is producing more fruit than you — that is spiritual contradiction.
  • Moses and Aaron occupied entirely different realms before God; God Himself rebuked the assumption of equality between them.

"You cannot think you are better than somebody who is producing more fruit than you."

God Speaks Within Your Assignment

  • God is not a random God — He will never speak to you about something that has nothing to do with your assignment.
  • The voice of God is confirmed by its alignment with your assignment; what falls outside your assignment is a sign to discern the source.
  • Many believers have made themselves available to demonic voices by seeking messages beyond the boundaries of what they have been given.

"God will always speak to you within the jurisdiction of the assignment and the journey is set for you."

Authority and Power Are Inseparable

  • Authority and power work together — you cannot have strong authority without the power to enforce it.
  • Any claim to authority without the power to back it up is evidence of a lower rank of authority.
  • Demons are not equal, angels are not equal, and ministers are not equal — all pastors, prophets, evangelists, and bishops are different in authority and power.

"Authority and power go together. You cannot have strong authority and little power."

"All pastors are not made equal. All evangelists are not made equal. All bishops are not made equal. All prophets are not made equal. We are all different."

The Difference Between Power and Authority in Scripture

  • In Luke 10, Jesus gave the disciples power — not authority — because they had not yet received their full assignment.
  • Authority requires an established government and a defined assignment; power is extended to those operating under the authority of another.
  • When Jesus was ascending, He gave both authority and power, because the apostles now had to execute on His behalf in His stead.

"He said, I give you power. When he was ascending, he said, behold, I give you authority and power. Because when he was ascending, he gave them an assignment that was to be enforced by the level of power they were supposed to carry."

The First Level of Power: Personal Victory

  • When you receive Jesus, you are elevated beyond the dust — you are no longer functioning as a man of dust subject to what creeps on the ground.
  • The first level of power given to every believer produces personal victory: what once plagued your family, followed your bloodline, kept you in sin and bondage — you can now tread upon it.
  • Treading is not casting out; it means your very presence can crush what once dominated you.

"When you become a child of God, Jesus elevates you beyond dusts that now you have power to tread on over them."

"The first level of power has been given to you to give you victory in your personal life first."

The Second Level: Signs Following Belief

  • Signs follow those who believe — not merely those who confess Jesus as Lord and Savior, but those who know who He is.
  • At this level, you can cast out devils, speak in new tongues, take on higher serpents, and lay hands on the sick.
  • This realm is still the realm of power, not yet authority — you have entered the service of the Kingdom but are still functioning under authority, not wielding it independently.

"In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

The Realm of Resistance

  • When spirits can no longer fight you in the spirit, they change dimensions and use the world system to fight you.
  • In this realm, your assignment is to resist — not yet to challenge; to hold your ground when earthly structures press against you.
  • Daniel prayed three times a day in defiance of the law; the Hebrew boys refused to bow; Jesus Himself resisted the world system until the appointed time of surrender.

"In this place you learn to resist the world. You can't challenge them yet but you can resist them."

Authority Is Your Job Description

  • Authority is delegated because God is trusting you to carry out His will based on what He has given you.
  • Within your job description, you already know what to do — you do not need to ask God repeatedly about what He has already authorized you to handle.
  • Jesus told the disciples to cleanse lepers, heal the sick, raise the dead, and forgive sin — He gave them jurisdiction; they did not need to seek repeated permission.

"If you understand your authority, you don't need to ask God what you should do in a situation because your authority is your job description."

"If you don't know what God has given you, how can you give it to others?"

You Cannot Give What You Have Not Received

  • Peter declared at the Beautiful Gate: silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give.
  • Your declaration is empty if you have nothing to give — you cannot share what you do not possess.
  • Jesus did not pray over the paralysed man; He declared. His declaration carried weight because He knew what He carried.

"If you don't know what you have, you can't be a blessing to anybody."

"Freely you have received freely give."

Key Definitions

Authority — The delegated right to act on God's behalf within a specific assigned jurisdiction; it is both a job description and the power to enforce it.

Power — The spiritual force that enforces authority; inseparable from authority — a low level of power indicates a lower rank of authority.

Treading — The first level of victory given to every believer in Christ: not casting spirits out of others, but walking over what once dominated your own life, crushing it by your presence.

Casting Out — Expelling spirits from other people; this belongs to the second realm of signs following belief, not to basic salvation.

Resistance — Holding your ground when the world system presses against you; the spiritual posture of the believer who has mastered the second realm but has not yet been elevated to challenge the world system directly.

Revealed vs Hidden — What is revealed belongs to man and is accessible in the natural world; what is hidden belongs to God and has not yet been disclosed. Seeking in the wrong realm — looking spiritually for what is already revealed naturally, or naturally for what remains hidden — causes spiritual confusion.

Key Takeaways

  • Your spiritual life is determined by what you know, not how you pray — prayer shaped by ignorance produces no results, because faith itself is a product of knowledge, not effort.
  • Authority and power are always proportional — you cannot claim to carry authority in the spirit and have no power to demonstrate it; that claim is a spiritual contradiction.
  • Personal victory must come before ministry — the first level of power God gives is to deliver you from what has been fighting you; you cannot give freedom to others before you have received it yourself.
  • God speaks within the boundaries of your assignment — anything that comes to you outside your assigned jurisdiction must be discerned carefully, because God is not random and demons will speak where God is silent.
  • Authority is your job description — once you know what God has given you, you do not ask permission for what He has already authorized; you act, declare, and give freely what you have freely received.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are you currently praying for things you do not yet have knowledge of — and has that shaped your expectation of results?
  2. Where in your personal life have you attempted to minister to others what you have not yet received yourself — and what would it look like to pursue your own victory first?
  3. Are there spiritual voices or messages you have been receiving that fall outside the boundaries of your God-given assignment? What have you done with them?
  4. Do you know your spiritual job description — what God has specifically authorized and entrusted to you — or are you fighting where you have not been sent?
  5. In what area of your life are you being called to resist the world system right now, and what would compromise in that area cost you spiritually?

Prayers and Declarations

"Thank you for complete healing Lord! In Jesus' name!"

"It left you in the name of Jesus."

"The cycle is broken."
