Why the Devil Knows Scripture but Still Has No Power
Scripture is the foundation, not the ceiling — and power only comes through divine revelation.
There is a great divide in the church between those who emphasize Scripture and those who walk in the power of God. This divide is unnecessary and correctable — but only through knowledge. The missing link for every believer who desires consistent manifestation is understanding the distinct nature, purpose, and boundaries of both Scripture and power, rather than collapsing them into one or pitting them against each other.
Teaching Overview
- Scripture and power are distinct — Jesus Himself makes this distinction in Matthew 22:29, and failing to understand it is the root cause of the church's powerlessness.
- Power comes exclusively through divine revelation, not through study, fasting, prayer, or moral refinement.
- The anointing is not power — it is God's appointment and approval for a specific service.
- Scripture's purpose is to lead believers to righteousness in Christ and position them for the supernatural — it is the foundation, not the destination.
- True power is demonstrated by making an open show of the enemy, releasing people from bondage, and turning hearts back to God.
Key Distinctions
| Scripture | The Word | The Anointing | Power | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Inspired writings documenting God's dealings with humanity | God Himself — divine nature expressed and made material | God's appointment and approval for a specific service | What God does in a person — a divine reality that defies nature and logic |
| How it comes | By inspiration of the Holy Spirit through men | By divine revelation and manifestation | By God's sovereign appointment — not earned or requested | By divine revelation alone — not through study, fasting, or prayer |
| Its purpose | To bring people to doctrine, correction, and righteousness in Christ | To carry divine light and understanding into the receiver | To set a person apart and authorize them for God's work | To make an open show of the enemy, release people from bondage, and turn hearts back to God |
| Its limitations | Is not the ceiling — cannot produce power on its own | Is a vehicle — the carrier of something greater than itself | Does not require knowledge of God — Cyrus was anointed without knowing God | Not confined to humanity, not controlled by nature, defies all logic and wisdom |
| Who defines it | The Holy Spirit who inspired the writers | God — "In the beginning was the Word" | God alone — He appoints without asking permission | God — through sovereign revelation to the one He empowers |
| What happens without it | No salvation — the gospel must be preached | No transformation — light and understanding cannot enter | The assignment has no divine authorization | Believers guess, hope, and produce no consistent manifestation |
The Divide Between Scripture and Power
- Believers fall into three categories: those with both Scripture and power, those with much power but limited scriptural advancement, and those highly advanced in Scripture with no manifestation of power.
- The divide between biblicalists and those who walk in power is real but unnecessary — both are distinct and complementary dimensions of the Christian life.
- Consistent manifestation of God's power is not reserved for a select few — it is available to every believer who understands how to release it.
"We should manifest the Lord continually, consistently."
The Missing Link: Knowledge
- The missing link in manifesting God's power is knowledge — specifically, understanding what you know about God, His power, and the distinct limitations and boundaries of both Scripture and power.
- Everything in the spiritual life has limits and boundaries; not knowing these boundaries causes believers to assume something is wrong with them when it is simply a knowledge gap.
- Operating from natural assumptions and guesswork keeps believers from releasing what God has already placed within them.
"The missing link is always one thing. What do you know? Because that is where everything stems from."
Jesus' Diagnosis: Matthew 22:29
- The Sadducees came to Jesus to trap Him using Scripture — yet they did not even believe in resurrection, the very act of power they were questioning.
- People who have never experienced or demonstrated God's power are the ones who judge and deny it when they see it manifested.
- Jesus' verdict was comprehensive — not merely theological correction, but a declaration that their entire approach to God was an error.
"You are making such a great error. You do error. Your whole life is an error, for you do not know the scriptures or the power of God."
The Distinction Between Scripture and Power
- Jesus Himself draws a clear line between Scripture and power — they are not the same, because their purposes are different.
- Scripture is the foundation, not the ceiling; churches that have elevated Scripture while neglecting power operate with zero demonstration of God's power.
- Power operates according to its own doctrines and principles, which are completely different from Scripture — and this is not a contradiction of Scripture but an operation from a different realm.
"Scripture and power are not the same. They are not even the same. Jesus, your Lord and Savior, is telling you there is a difference between Scripture and power."
The Word Is Not the Same as Scripture
- Scripture is inspired writing — a collection of historical accounts and God's dealings with humanity.
- The Word is God Himself — divine power made material. "In the beginning was the Word" — this is not a description of a text but of the divine nature.
- The Word functions as a vehicle, like a needle carrying medicine — it transports divine light and understanding into the person who receives it.
"The Word and Scripture are not the same thing. The word is God's power. The word is God himself."
Scripture's True Purpose
- The purpose of Scripture is to bring believers to righteousness in Christ — to correct, instruct, and position them to understand that Jesus Christ is their only righteousness.
- It is impossible to know Jesus Christ or receive salvation without Scripture, because the gospel must be preached — but after that, believers are meant to advance into the supernatural.
- The Scriptures serve a foundational role; once they have brought a person to Christ, the believer must move beyond the natural into the realm of power.
"Scripture is supposed to bring you to a place whereby you see Jesus as your righteousness. Jesus Christ has to become your righteousness. That is the only way you can please God."
Power Comes by Divine Revelation
- Power does not come through experience, study, fasting, or prayer — it comes exclusively through divine revelation.
- God has never been without revelation, and power has always been about revelation — not about morality, character refinement, or scriptural advancement.
- The greatest demonstrations of God's power have sometimes come through people whose character was not yet perfected, because power is not a reward for righteousness — it is a gift of revelation.
"Power only comes by divine revelation. Power is only by divine revelation."
What Power Actually Is
- Power is not what a person puts their body through — fasting and prayer are important and have their place, but they do not produce power.
- Power is the ability to make an open show of the enemy, release people from bondage, and turn the hearts of children back to their fathers.
- When a person is empowered by God, they are bold, fearless, and operate with complete assurance — because power and faith work together to produce a divine consciousness.
"Power is not what you put your body through. Power is what God does in you. If you cannot make an open show of the enemy, if you cannot release the people of God from bondage, if you cannot turn the hearts of the children back to the father, you don't know what power is."
The Anointing Is Not Power
- The anointing means to be set apart or appointed for God's service — it is God's approval and authorization for a specific assignment.
- Cyrus was anointed to deliver Israel from Babylon without even knowing God — which demonstrates that the anointing is about God's sovereign appointment, not the person's spiritual condition or power.
- Jesus declared in Luke 4:18 that the Spirit had anointed Him to preach the gospel — the anointing was His divine approval and authorization, not the source of His power.
"The anointing just means to be set apart for God's service. The anointing is not power."
The Nature of Power and God's Purposes
- Power is not confined to humanity, not controlled by nature, and defies all logic and wisdom — God intentionally makes power look foolish until the results come.
- God does not ask anyone's permission or opinion when He has decided to bless or empower a person — opposition, spiritual attack, or personal failure does not change what God has decided.
- Power comes with specific personal convictions given by God to those who carry it — different carriers operate by different rules based on what God has ordained for them individually.
"Power is not confined to humanity. Power is not controlled by nature. Power defies all logic and wisdom. Power has its own doctrines. Power has its own ways."
Key Definitions
Scripture — Writings given by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness; the historical record of God's dealings with humanity, designed to bring believers to righteousness in Christ.
The Word — God Himself expressed in divine power and material form; not a text but a divine nature — "In the beginning was the Word." The Word is the vehicle that transports divine light and understanding into the one who receives it.
Power — What God does in a person through divine revelation; not a product of fasting, prayer, or moral effort, but the ability to make an open show of the enemy, release people from bondage, and turn hearts back to God.
The Anointing — God's sovereign appointment and approval for a specific service or assignment. It does not equal power and does not require the person to know God — Cyrus was anointed without knowing who God was.
Dominion — Unquestionable authority and complete control over one's circumstances; the original mandate given to Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:26. A lack of control is a sign of lacking in power.
Divine Revelation — The exclusive means by which power is received; not the result of study, experience, or spiritual discipline, but a direct impartation from God to the person He has chosen to empower.
Key Takeaways
- Scripture and power are distinct — Jesus said so — Collapsing the two or treating Scripture as the source of power is the very error Jesus rebuked in Matthew 22:29, and it explains why entire churches operate with zero demonstration of God's power.
- Power comes exclusively through divine revelation — No amount of fasting, prayer, or scriptural study produces power; understanding this frees believers from false formulas and positions them to actually receive from God.
- The anointing is God's appointment, not God's power — Confusing the two leads believers to mistake authorization for ability, and to misjudge those who carry genuine power based on their character or scriptural knowledge.
- Scripture's purpose is to lead to righteousness in Christ, not to be the ceiling of the Christian life — Once the gospel has brought a person to salvation, they are called to advance into the supernatural realm.
- God's purposes cannot be stopped by opposition, failure, or human opinion — When God has decided to bless or empower someone, it is settled — the gates of hell cannot prevail against what God has approved.
Reflection Questions
- Have you treated Scripture as both the foundation and the ceiling of your Christian life — and what would it require for you to advance into the supernatural realm God intends?
- When you see demonstrations of God's power that seem unusual or unfamiliar, is your first response faith or suspicion — and what does your response reveal about your own experience with power?
- Are you currently substituting spiritual disciplines like fasting and prayer for a genuine encounter with God's power — and how would you know the difference?
- What false formulas have you been relying on to produce power in your life, and what would it mean to release those and trust God for divine revelation instead?
- In what area of your life are you not operating in dominion — and based on this teaching, what is the root cause of that lack of control?
Prayers and Declarations
"So here's me by the spirit of God and I pray that this truly touches your spirit. I want this to really touch your spirit, to enter your spirit, to move your spirit, to elevate your spirit for you to really come to the full understanding of who God is. I really desire that for you."

Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
