Growing in the Spirit: Raising Others Higher Than Yourself
True spiritual maturity is measured not by the miracles you perform, but by the greater works you release in others.
Spiritual growth is not complete until it produces other growers. The mandate of every true man of God is not merely to save souls but to raise them — to pour out knowledge, impartation, and understanding so generously that those who receive it exceed the one who gave it. This is the standard Jesus set, and it remains the measure of genuine spiritual fatherhood today.
Teaching Overview
- True spiritual maturity requires raising others to greater heights than yourself — Joshua went farther than Moses, and that is always the goal.
- A man of God is identified not by his power, but by who he raises and what he produces spiritually.
- Prophesying can change a temporary situation, but teaching raises a person to a higher dimension of function.
- You cannot serve God unless you are serving Him with your spirit — not merely with your heart, strength, or power.
- Spiritual awareness, not opened physical eyes, is what gives you access to the spiritual realm.

Divine Announcement Before the Fullness
- God announces people into their calling before they have physically become what they are called to be.
- David was anointed King while still a shepherd boy looking after his father's sheep; Jesus was called the Good Shepherd before He owned any cattle.
- The same God who anointed David and Jesus anoints people when they are not yet what they are supposed to be.
"You may not look like where you are going right now... But at the proper time you shall be lifted up."
The Principle of Secrecy
- Secrecy is an essential condition for God to confide His purposes in you.
- God does not entrust His secrets to someone who announces everything to everyone.
- Let your actions speak — not your words — so that God can plant things within you.
"From today let your actions tell people what you're doing. Become secretive."
Being Present With God Now
- It is dangerous to remain where God used to be — the people in that place can pull you away from where God actually is now.
- God moves, and you must always be in His present, not in His yesterday.
- Those who dwell where God used to dwell can drag others down to their level rather than drawing them forward.
"You have to be in the present with God. Not in God's yesterday, but in the present with the Lord Jesus."
The Goal of Greater Works
- A true man of God raises a standard so that others can begin from that standard — not beneath it.
- Joshua went farther than Moses, and that is always the goal: those who come after must exceed those who came before.
- Jesus Himself declared that greater works than His would be done — which means settling for doing only what Jesus did is to fall short.
"My desire is not for you to be like me. My desire is for you to do better and greater than me."
"If you live this world and nobody has out-done you, you failed. People need to do better and more than you."
Identifying a True Man of God
- A true man of God is generous with information because the goal is to raise someone to be sufficient, not to keep them dependent.
- The fruit of a man of God is not miracles performed — it is the people raised.
- If a man of God is the only powerful person around him and has produced no one of comparable or greater stature, he is not functioning as a true man of God.
"If you want to know a fake man of God, it's not in what they say. It's in who they raise."
The Failure of Not Raising Others
- It is not about saving souls — it is about raising souls.
- Jesus' command was to make disciples, not merely to gather converts.
- Any man of God who is not raising people has failed the Lord — big time.
"It's not about saving souls. It's about raising souls."
"If you are a man of God and you're not raising people, you have failed the Lord."
Spiritual Fatherhood in Scripture
- When Jesus said "call no man father," He was addressing Pharisees who taught things they themselves did not do — He was not abolishing the concept of spiritual fathers.
- God identifies Himself as the God of the fathers, and you cannot know God except through a father.
- Spiritual children, unlike servants, are given the secrets of the house — spiritual fathers pour their hearts into children so they can be raised, not merely directed.
"You will never know God except from a father. It is impossible."
The Responsibility of Teaching and Stewardship
- Teaching is what raises people — prophesying changes situations, but teaching changes the person.
- A man of God who does not teach leaves nothing behind that multiplies after him.
- The ministry must continue and even surpass the one who built it — that is the evidence that a man of God truly taught.
"If you don't teach somebody, you have not raised them."
"I can prophesy to you. It will be powerful. It would be great. It would be excellent, but it will not raise you. It would change your situation, but it will not change you."
Serving God With Your Spirit
- Romans 1:9 establishes that God is served with the spirit — not with the heart, not with strength, not with power.
- Paul's witness to God was in the spirit, which is why his prayer for others was without ceasing — the spirit does not sleep or stop.
- Physical activity interrupts natural prayer, but the spirit can continue interceding without interruption.
"You cannot serve God unless you are serving Him with your spirit."
Elisha's Spirit and Spiritual Consciousness
- Elisha's body remained in his house while his spirit was present with his servant and Naaman — he saw and recounted every detail of what occurred.
- Spiritual presence is real, verifiable, and independent of physical location.
- The spiritual world is not experienced because most people are not conscious of it — awareness is the doorway.
"Don't you realize that I was there in spirit?"
Awareness and Spiritual Understanding
- The spiritual eyes of a believer have never slept — what must be opened is the understanding, not the spirit itself.
- Enlightened understanding gives you access to perceive what is already present in the spirit.
- You do not see in the spirit because you do not know what you are looking for — awareness is what enables spiritual sight.
"It is your understanding that gives you access. You don't experience the spirit man unless you are aware of the spirit man."
"The reason why you don't see in the spirit is you don't know what you're looking for."
The Definition and Role of a True Prophet
- A true prophet is a mediator between the spiritual realm and the physical realm — an oracle who takes spiritual mysteries and makes them understandable to those in the flesh.
- A prophet is a revelator — revealing what already exists but is unseen, not inventing or creating.
- Someone who cannot bring spiritual things and make them digestible is not functioning as a true prophet, even if they carry a prophetic gift.
"A true prophet is a revelator. You are showing something that already exists, but people cannot see. Revealing, not creating."
The Two-Edged Sword and the Separation of Soul and Spirit
- The Word of God divides soul from spirit as a two-edged sword separates bone from marrow.
- The soul and the spirit are similar but not the same — the Word of God, rightly ministered, is what makes that distinction visible.
- When you receive someone who can separate the two so you see it and know it, your life is changed.
"The word of God is that double-edged sword... when you receive somebody that can separate the two, so you see it and you know it, your life is changed."
Key Definitions
Raising souls — The act of discipling, teaching, and imparting spiritual understanding to others so they grow beyond their current level and become capable of raising others in turn; distinguished from merely saving souls or changing their temporary circumstances.
Spiritual father — One who pours their knowledge, experience, and revelation into spiritual children with the explicit goal of making those children greater than themselves; as distinguished from those who teach what they themselves do not live, which Jesus directly rebuked in Matthew 23.
Prophet (Oracle) — A mediator between the spiritual realm and the physical realm; one who reveals what already exists in the spirit but is unseen, and makes those mysteries understandable to those in the flesh.
Serving God with your spirit — The mode of service Paul describes in Romans 1:9 — engaging God through the spirit rather than through emotion, natural strength, or willpower; the only mode in which one can pray without ceasing because the spirit never sleeps.
Spiritual awareness / Enlightenment — The state of being conscious of the spiritual realm so that what is already present and active in the spirit can be perceived; produced by the Word of God enlightening the understanding, not by any opening of a separate set of spiritual eyes.
Revelator — The function of a prophet: to show what already exists beyond natural perception, bringing it within the reach and understanding of those who could not otherwise see or access it.
Key Takeaways
- True spiritual maturity produces greater works in others, not just in yourself — If no one around you has exceeded you, the assignment has not been completed.
- Teaching raises people; prophesying changes situations — God wants to change people, not just their circumstances, which is why teaching is the greater act of love.
- A true man of God is identified by who he raises, not by the power he displays — Fruit is measured in discipled lives, not in the magnitude of miracles performed alone.
- You serve God with your spirit, not with your emotions or natural strength — This is the only level at which prayer without ceasing is possible and God is truly witnessed.
- Spiritual sight is a matter of awareness and understanding, not a second set of eyes — Enlightenment through the Word is what unlocks perception of the spiritual realm.
Reflection Questions
- Are you actively raising someone to go further than you — in faith, in ministry, in spiritual understanding? If not, what is holding you back from making that investment?
- When you think about your spiritual growth, are you pursuing a deeper awareness of the spiritual realm, or are you only seeking changed circumstances? What would it look like to prioritise understanding over outcomes?
- Who are you sitting under, and are they giving you information that raises you — or only directing you without releasing you? Does the person you receive from desire your growth beyond them?
- If the people around you were the measure of your spiritual fruit, what would that fruit reveal about what you have truly poured into them?
- In what area of your life are you still living in "God's yesterday" — following a move of God that has already passed — rather than being present with where He is now?
Prayers and Declarations
Opening Prayer
"I pray for you in the name of Jesus the Lord will touch you wherever you are I pray that the Sulama anointing shall come upon you as you listen to this prayer. I pray that your spiritual ears and your spiritual eyes and your spiritual understanding shall be unlocked this day."
"I pray that the mysteries of Jehovah God shall be released unto you. I pray that you may know His power, that you may know His love, that you may know His mind in your life this day."
"I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus. May what was impossible become possible now."
"I pray that my encounters with the Lord will become your encounters. I pray that every single angelic visitation that I've experienced may the Lord favor you today, May the Lord give you the grace to see the things that I have seen and beyond."
"I unlock you in the prophetic today. I release the Sulama anointing upon you today."
"May angels ascend and descend upon you in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus. May the Lord be glorified through your life."
Closing Declaration
"There will be a difference from this day. When you stand before people, when you pray there will be a change. That people will know that the Holy Spirit is upon you and He has anointed you. To do the work of God, to be a shield for your family, to be a defender of your family. Let it be so now, and Jesus might delay."
