Growing in the Spirit: Why God Responds to His Word, Not Your Words
The power to transform your reality lies not in prayer alone, but in knowing, speaking, and echoing God's established Word back to Him with authority.
The Word of God is not merely a collection of religious texts — it is spirit, and it is the established channel through which God operates in the material realm. Most believers pray without understanding what actually moves God, and the gap between unanswered prayer and breakthrough is almost always a gap in the Word. God is unchangeable, His formula has never changed, and until you know how to echo His spoken declarations back to Him, the power He has already released cannot complete its course.
Teaching Overview
- The Word of God is spirit, and spoken words have the power to create or establish material reality.
- God does not respond to every prayer or every word — He responds to faith rooted in His established Word.
- The power of God's Word activates not when He speaks it out, but when a believer echoes it back to Him.
- The New Covenant believer has a better spirit and a better covenant than the Old Testament saints — the only limitation is knowledge of the Word.
- God is unchangeable, and the pattern of those who succeeded with Him has never changed — the formula is the same for every generation.

The Word of God Is Spirit and Creates Material Reality
- The Word of God is not merely language — it is spirit, and the Spirit of man was born of the Word of God.
- Jesus declared that the words He speaks are spirit, and that spoken things are material things — the Word has the ability to create material substance.
- Whatever you speak, you are establishing it — saying "my sickness" creates sickness, because every material thing is born from the spirit.
"The Word of God is spirit. The things we speak to you — so what are things? Material things. So the word has the ability to make material things."
God Does Not Respond to Every Word — He Responds to Faith
- God has not answered prayer — God answers faith. God does not listen to the words of men; He listens to the heart of men.
- God does not respond to complaint, tears, or unaided words — He responds only to what He has already established.
- Anyone who prays without the Word of God has a gun with no bullets — it is not simply about speaking to God, but knowing what words God will respond to.
"Anybody who prays without the word of God, you have a gun with no bullets, you will not be able to do anything."
God Will Only Respond Through the Channel He Has Established
- God will never respond through a channel that He has not already established — the only way to come to God is by the way He has set, not by the way you have invented.
- There is a difference between being set free and being made free — the truth does not set you free, it makes you free, transforming you into a being that cannot be bound again.
- People who try to approach God through their own methods — giving to the poor as a bribe, unique prayer styles, self-invented paths — are resisted, because God only responds to the path that He has spoken.
"The truth makes you free. It does not set you free. If you are made free, you are a being that cannot be captured again."
The New Covenant Believer Has a Better Spirit and a Better Covenant
- Jesus is the second Adam — the first of a new kind of man — and every born-again believer is a new creation with a different spirit, not like the old one.
- The New Testament does not begin in Matthew — it begins in Acts, when Jesus died and resurrected and the new covenant was inaugurated.
- New Covenant believers are meant to outperform the Old Testament saints, because we have a better spirit and a better covenant — the only limitation is the Word of God.
"So technically, me and you are supposed to do better than Moses, because that's the past. And we have a better spirit and a better covenant."
Our Limitation Is the Word of God, Not the Spirit
- The difference between New Covenant believers and Old Testament champions is not the spirit — it is the Word; those men had the Word and operated from it.
- The miracle of water turning to wine was not produced by prayer — it was produced by the command of the Word; what made the Red Sea part was the words in Moses.
- The Word of God was never meant to be memorized — Jesus said He wants His words written in the heart, not the mind, because whatever is in the heart becomes second nature and natural reflex.
"Our limitation is not the spirit. It is the word of God."
God's Word Activates When You Echo It Back to Him
- Isaiah 55:11 declares that God's Word that goes forth from His mouth shall not return to Him void — this means the Word must be sent back to Him to accomplish what He set out to do.
- When God speaks a declaration over your life, nothing happens until you stand and echo that word back to Him — the power of the Word is activated not when it goes forth, but when it returns to Him.
- What changes your situation is God's own words, not your words — God is bound to Himself, not to any person, and His obligation is to His Word.
"When God speaks nothing happens, unless somebody echoes it back. The power of the word, it's when it returns to him. Not when it goes forth out of him."
God Is Unchangeable — Learn the Pattern of Those Who Succeeded With Him
- God is the same yesterday, today, and forever — He is established in His ways, and no man's words, feelings, or methods will change Him.
- The pattern of everyone who succeeded with God is the same — the formula has never changed, it does not matter who it is or when it is.
- God told Joshua He would be with him as He was with Moses — not in a new way — because God responds the same way every time someone comes to Him through His established path.
"The formula is the same with Jehovah. It will not change. Because he does not change. He is the same. I call him Jehovah old school. He is not changing for anybody."
Speak to Mountains — Do Not Pray Against Them
- Jesus commanded believers to speak to mountains, not to pray against them — prayer addressed to God asking Him to fight is a misunderstanding of the authority already delegated.
- God is too great for the devil — He did not cast Satan out of heaven Himself, it was Michael who dealt with him — which shows that God gave authority to agents below Him to handle what is beneath Him.
- God put the enemy under our feet and commanded us to trample over serpents and scorpions — this is a declaration of existing authority, not a request to be made.
"Jesus said, don't pray against mountains. Speak to the mountains. Speak to the demon. You don't ever come back here again."

Key Definitions
The Word of God — Not merely written text or religious language, but spirit itself — the living, uttered voice of God that has the ability to create and establish material things.
Logos — The Greek word used in Matthew 24:35 for "words," meaning utterance — the uttered, living voice; specifically prophecy: a command spoken now that causes a situation to change.
Being Made Free — The permanent transformation that occurs when a person possesses the truth; unlike being set free, it changes the nature of the person so they cannot be captured again.
Death (Spiritual) — Separation from God — not the cessation of the soul's existence, but the state of being cut off from the presence and life of God.
Praying With the Word — Echoing back to God the declarations He has already spoken — the act of sending His uttered Word back to Him so that it completes its purpose and does not return to Him void.
The New Creation — The born-again believer who has received the new spirit that Jesus inaugurated as the second Adam — a different kind of person from the old Adamic man, with a better spirit and a better covenant.
Key Takeaways
- God answers faith, not prayer — Understanding this prevents years of unanswered petitions and redirects your spiritual energy toward knowing and trusting what God has already declared.
- The Word must be echoed back to God to activate His promises — God's spoken Word requires a human voice to reflect it back to Him before it accomplishes what He sent it to do — this is the missing key in most believers' prayer lives.
- New Covenant believers have no excuse for spiritual weakness — We have a better spirit and a better covenant than every Old Testament hero; the only reason we underperform them is a lack of the Word.
- God is unchangeable, and His formula for responding never changes — Trying to invent a new or unique approach to God is pride; learning and following the pattern of those who succeeded with Him is the fastest path to breakthrough.
- Speak to mountains — do not pray against them — Authority over the enemy has already been delegated; the believer's job is to exercise it through the Word, not to beg God to do what He has already assigned to us.
Reflection Questions
- When you pray, are you echoing back what God has already declared over your life — or are you presenting Him with requests He has no established Word to respond to?
- Is your knowledge of the Word of God deep enough to serve as a weapon, or have you been relying on sincerity and repetition as a substitute for truth?
- Where in your life have you been addressing God about a situation He has already given you authority to speak to directly?
- If God is unchangeable and the formula has never changed, what adjustments do you need to make to align with the pattern of those who succeeded with Him?
- Is the Word of God written in your heart — shaping your instincts and reflexes — or is it only in your mind as memorized information that has not yet become who you are?
Prayers and Declarations
Opening Prayer and Prophetic Activation
"I pray that the Sulama anointing shall come upon you as you listen to this prayer. I pray that your spiritual ears and your spiritual eyes and your spiritual understanding shall be unlocked this day. I pray that the mysteries of Jehovah God shall be released unto you. I pray that you may know His power, that you may know His love, that you may know His might in your life this day."
"I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus. May what was impossible become possible now. I pray that my encounters with the Lord will become your encounters. I pray that every single angelic visitation that I've experienced may the Lord favor you today. May the Lord give you the grace to see the things that I have seen and beyond. I unlock you in the prophetic today. I release the Sulama anointing upon you today."
"May angels ascend and descend upon you in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus. May the Lord be glorified through your life. May the world know that Jesus is alive by reason of Him manifesting Himself through you. I decree as a prophet of God. There will be a difference from this day when you stand before people, when you pray there will be a change that people will know that the Holy Spirit is upon you and he has anointed you to do the work of God, to be a shield for your family, to be a defender of your family."
"Let it be so now, and Jesus might delay."
